A man who would have been coach at Arizona had Miller not taken the job, was offered the Iowa job, and even after being fired at Utah was in the final three for the Penn St. job.

You're going to claim that this man offered less coaching to his team than a Junior Jazz or Wardball coach did. This is literally the idea that Utefans like yourself are selling.

Its why even if I didn't watch a moment of Ute hoops this year (and I did and I know you're wrong) I would know just how very stupid the idea you're trying to sell is.

I think what is clear to me is, Utah people don't actually know shit about basketball and whether you have a system or a real point guard or run solid inbound plays depends entirely up whether you win or lose.

Oh sheesh. Nice to know that Boylen is now a martyr. Yeah, I am sure that Arizona would have been thrilled to have Boylen right now. Boylen will land on his feet, and I hope he does, but you act like people are pounding on his door to be their next coach. I guess with him being so respected and appreciated, a big job is just around the corner. He is 'stunningly well thought of'...so you telling me that he must be an amazing head coach? Really. Mark Few said that Gaic would be a great head coach. Do you also think he was a great head coach and that he should still be at Utah?

No, I never said that Boylen coached like a Jr. Jazz coach. Nice tangent though. But if you think that his offensive and defensive sets were any good (oh, btw, you have yet to tell me what they were), then you really don't know much about basketball. How many games did you actually watch last year or the year before? Why have you been so bent on how terrific coaches that Gaic and Boylen were and so pissed at Krystko. I can't understand the logic, but I would love to hear it from you.

Tell me where I am wrong about the lack of game plans from Boylen. I would love to hear your insight. I have had season tickets to Utah basketball since Archibald. I would love to hear what I am wrong about. Teach me Mr. Crimson.

You take massive player turnover, which was on Boylen but the turnover was him trying to correct a couple of mistakes, combine that with major injuries...

Foster didn't practice till Jan, O'Brien missed the first 13 games, Jay Watkins is well documented, Clyburn going down at the end of the year...

Add in what Boylen went through with his family in the middle of the year (and this is what really pisses me off, people knowing what he went through and still being pieces of crap enough to insult the man)

And it adds up to things not looking great. But it wasn't the season before. Combine that with Boylen having already won a title and a rumor that Dr. Hill told him he had two more years after the third year, it looks like crap.

But the idea that Boylen never had a system, its beyond stupid.
The players didn't quit, but the coach quit trying to win games. Instead, he was content to minimize damage and coached to lower the margin of defeat.

I remember watching the BYU game where he was having his team hold the ball while down 10 points with 5 minutes left. Sure it made sense to slow the game down against BYU, but not when you are running out of time to win the game.

I would think that a man who is "stunningly well thought of" would have a new job by now instead of sitting on his ass and talking to the media outlets of the teams recruiting our players.

Wasn't the game plan for the start of that game to slow it down? I guess I don't understand how abandoning the game plan chucking up bad shots early in the play clock was going to help.

It is general accepted wisdom that when the game gets late, such as under 5 minutes left, one abandons a slow down tempo if they are losing by 10 points.

The reality is Coach Boylen's Ute teams lost a lot of games. They lost a lot of games to programs Utah has no excuse losing to any year. They lost many of those games in the 4th year Boylen had been the HC. IMO it was obvious that Utah would never be very good with Boylen as the HC. That is not to say that I think the past two years are indicative that Boylen absolutely sucks as a HC. I believe that Utah was inflicted with some bad luck during his tenure, but I also think that he was probably responsible for some of that bad luck. Mister Crimson knows Gary Crouton was a bad coach and Gary Crouton also won a conference championship. The reality is probably that both Gary Crouton and Jimmy Boylen are neither as good as their conference championship pinnacles nor as bad as their doldrum cellar dwelling lowlights. Ergo, neither head coach was likely to ever lead their respecitve teams to success that the fans of both programs have enjoyed and have come to expect. I think both institutions made the right decisions in firing both.

Now I can accept that Utah is going to suck more next year than they would have had Boylen stayed, however I also believe Utah would never be much more than mediocre with Boylen long term. It Perhaps Krystkowiak is or isn't the right guy for the job, but it was obvious to me that Boylen was the wrong guy for the job. Often times picking HCs is a process of eliminating the wrong guys for the job with faith and eternal optimism that the next guy is the right guy for the job. I also think there is a component of luck and the law of averages indicate that Utah's luck should turn up sometime.
