That was my recommendation going into the postseason. They ignored my advice...they will rue that decision!

My understanding is this will be the 13 scholie players for next year:

    Carlino
    Martineau
    Winder
    Harrison
    Zylstra
    Abouo
    Rogers
    Hartsock
    Davies
    Collinsworth
    Sharp
    Haward
    Austin

I predict that Martineau will play pg until Carlino gets elgible and then will back up Carlino. The starters, post Carlion being elgible will be Carlino, Abouo, Rogers, Hartsock, Davies with Martineau, Winder, Harrison, Collinsworth and Austin off the bench. Into the conference season I forsee Winder and Austin finding fewer and fewer minutes as BYU tightens its rotation to 8 players consisting of the 5 starters + Martineau, Harrison and Collinsworth. I also would not be enormously surprised if the addition of Sharp, and the fact that he does not have a RS available, might lead to Austin redshirting this year in order to not have 5 players the same year in elgibility, and the be joined by Tyler Haws next year. I think it not wise to be set up to have Haws, Harrison, Winder, Carlino, Austin and Sharp all graduate the same year. Haws and Harrison are both too good and will play too big a role to ever redshirt. Carlino, Sharp and Winder have all used up a RS. It might make sense to RS both Harward and Austin next year and play Hartsock, Davies and Collinsworth as the primary post players and then use Sharp or Rogers as the emergency option at the 4.

Isn't Harrison going on a mission? I thought he was planning on that.

I am assuming no, but I don't really know. My assumption is because he is already 19, as after his JR year of HS he transferred to a prep school and re-classified to a JR instead of coming in as a SR, and that he is planning at playing at BYU next year and contributing as a freshman that he will not go.

That's a good point. I haven't heard anything either way for certain. I've only heard from people that know him that he is devout LDS. It probably wouldn't surprise me either way.

Harrison is not planning on a mission. He is also already in Provo and enrolled in summer classes.

Yeah, I was just wondering if he'd go the first year and then go a year late on his mission. You're probably right though. It would have made more sense to go now rather than wait a year.

I believe that unless he has been adamant about plans to serve he won't. My guess is that he will not start this upcoming year but he will play significant minutes (20-25 mpg) and is likely to be a starter for 3 straight years. I doubt he will leave that to serve a mission. I think the raising of the bar actually makes it easier for some kids to choose not to go as I think the social pressure to serve is decreasing. Not to mention the good that a kid like Jimmer does for the Kingdom of God with all the mad props and attention that he demands! Trully, we (we is inclusive of the BYU fans on this venue who trully put the interests of the LDS Church first) would prefer for Demarcus to stay in school and build upon the legacy that the Jimmer just cemented!

Katz is reporting that because of the lockout, Jimmer will be working out in Provo helping the team prep for their trip to Greece.

Also, the Virginia Tech is a home and neutral series. VA Tech is coming to ESA the following year.

Don't forget about Don Carlino. Sure he has to wait a few weeks but he'll be the guy to get this offense rolling.
