Do we have one of these already? If not, let's get going. I'm alread excited for next season. I think we have a busy summer with Greece, the development of Harrison, Davies reinstatement, recruiting Emery, Parker, Chatman, etc. This program is climbing, not dying, and we'll be back in the Sweet 16 before you know it.

    Roster changes for next year:

Losing -- Fredette, Emery, Magnusson, K. Collinsworth

Getting from redshirt, mission or signing -- Harrison (6-5, guard), Carlino (6-1, guard), Winder (6-2, guard), Austin (6-9, forward), Harward (6-10, forward).

    Likely redshirt -- Harward

I am recently given to understand that Martineau might not play next year. If that is true, we could see another signee or JC transfer who could come in to play point. I don't think we see another size guy come in unless Davies leaves. I think Davies will be back by fall semester so I don't think we see another big guy come in. As it is, I think we will have enough size next year to move CC to the 3 spot. Austin will back up Hartsock and Anderson will back up Davies. CC will start at the 3 and will be backed up by Rogers. Abuou at the 2 and Carlino will be the 1. Back ups will be Harrison and Winder. Preseason point will be Abuou (who is a better point than Winder) and Harrison will see a lot of time at the 2 in preseason.

We're going back to the tournament next year bitches and we'll probably win a game there.

Sounds good. Do you think Davies is back in the fall or the same time as Carlino?

Back in the fall but Rose seems to think end of fall semester.

Rose will always go smaller than taller. I highly doubt CC will ever play wing at BYU. It's more likely you see Rogers some minutes at the 4 than CC at the wing.

        I see it as:
        1 Carlino
        2 Harrison
        3 Abouo
        4 Noah
        5 Brandon

        Primary backups:
        CC at the 4/5
        Rogers at the wing

The bad part of the Davies situation for next season is he will miss out on the summer trip. It would have been nice to have him in there building chemistry.

Summer trips to Europe seem to be very beneficial, and should help the team in the rebuilding process (getting used to a new backcourt). I assume Davies won't go, but can/will Carlino or Harrison participate? I recall reading somewhere that BYU was seeking permission for Carlino to go; that would be a huge plus.

I think both will go, but I could be wrong.

Harrison will go and is enrolling early to do so. I think Carlino is up in the air.

How is CC's recovery going? Will he be 100% to start the year or will the knee be a lingering issue?

I think you are misreading Rose. I think he will go skilled before he will go big. He has been trying to raise the skill level of the bigs since he got here. Early on he had to go with smaller guys who had big guy heart and little guy skills but now he is increasingly getting big guys with little guy skills. Notice that this year when CC played he played the 4 and Noah played the 5. I think that was an indicator of the direction he was going. I also think he goes for D over O when chosing guys.

Let's take a look at next year's known roster.

Guards: Carlino, Winder, Abuou, Harrison, Martineau, Zylstra
Forwards: Rogers, Collinsworth, Hartsock, Austin, Davies, Anderson, Harward

Notice that the two lowest performing players are guards (Martineau and Zylstra). Also notice the numbers comparison. We have a lot more forwards than guards next year. Also notice that we have the following forwards with 3 point range: Rogers, Collinsworth, Hartsock, Austin. Only Davies, Anderson, and Harward lack three point range. Harward is a definite choice to redshirt.

I think it is clear that Rose is setting up to put some more size at the 3. Now if Noah can just improve his dribble penetration ...

I think you may be onto something. Let's recall also that our offense is not necessarily a 3 point shooting offense. It became that under Jackson and Jimmer these last few years. We'll always shoot a lot, but if we look at 2, 3,and 4 years ago, we didn't shoot near as many as this year. Even with Tav's relentless attempt to break the attempts record.( 865 this year compared to 700 and 669 the previous 2).
So, the fact that CC isn't a great outside shooter won't be a huge detriment to him playing the 3. Since CC, Davies, and Noah are probably the 3 (or 3 of the 4) best players on the team next year, Rose will want to get them all on the court for most of the game. That means CC at the 3.

I'm more concerned about integrating the guards than you are.

Maybe I'm off, but of course you're going to have more forwards than guards if you are lumping 5s in with the forwards. You've got essentially 2 spots for "smalls" and 3 spots for "bigs". Some of the "smalls" like Abuou really can play forward and "smalls" (Rogers) can play guard.

I also think we see a huge step next year from Chuck. I think he becomes a lot more assertive and gets a lot more looks offensively, hopefully slashing. I also think he'll play more 3 than 2 (or 1... did I read that right KDog in the original post?).

Then again, so much depends on how ready Harrison and Carlino are to contribute from day 1. Either way it is setting up nicely for another run in a few years.

I wouldn't mind seeing Abouo (notice the spelling, by the way; we might as well learn how to spell it before his senior year) run the point. I assume that most teams in the preseason won't be doing a ton of full court pressure anyway and I'd rather have him on the court than a rookie PG with marginal skills.

I think we have 1 Center on the roster and he is a hold over from pre-Rose. Everyone else is a forward. I think accurately we have two spots for smalls, two spots for bigs and one spot that can go either way depending on the talent on the roster. That swing spot has been filled by Lee Cummard and JT. It has also been filled by Abuou.

The Abououououo at the 1 comment is coming from Winder and Abouo saying that Chuck was a better 1 than Winder and Chuck has the ability to guard the 1. Harrison can probably also play the 1. Winder seems like he isn't there yet.
