What I've heard doesn't make sense so I'm discounting it. I just dont' see how adding another young coach makes sense. I think they are more likely to hire Roger Reid and Roger is more likely to come back than the nonsense I have heard.

Deeps Shades of Blue is saying that Nashif was given a bigger role in running the offense this last year based on the belief that Rice would be gone and that Nashif would eventually take over Rice's role. Anyone heard that?

He even gives a shout out to rising junior Brock Zylstra. That means that Brock's two shout outs have come from K-Dog and Andy Katz.

For those on the inside is BYU looking to pick up any transfers leaving higher profile schools? Here is my scholarship count:

1.) Martineau
2.) Carlino
3.) Winder
4.) Harrison
5.) Abouo
6.) Zylstra
7.) Rogers
8.) Collinsworth
9.) Hartsock
10.) Davies
11.) Harward
12.) Austin

That leaves one more scholie open. They clearly ignored my advice to land a JC PG. So I really have no idea what the coaching staff is pursuing. My guess is they will either try to pick up a high profile transfer or just eat it. What I hate about eating it is they inevitably award it to a walk on and then the walk on becomes permanent.

WRT next year's recruiting, BYU loses Abouo and Hartsock and then has the open scholie to fill if it is still open. BYU is recruiting Calean Robinson, a non-LDS HS PG out of the Phoenix area, J-LOVE and Jeff Chatman's son. I will go out on a limb and proclaim Jeff Chatman's son a lock, I think the Y has a real good shot with Jordan Loveridge as he is from Utah and I think his skillset and BYU's style of play are really a good fit for each other. Time will tell. I have no clue on Calean Robinson. Rose, from experience, is pretty focussed, by that I mean he doesn't seem to cast a very wide net, with his recruiting efforts. My guess is these are the only 3 BYU is going after real hard this year. I don't know what the backup plans are should they not land both Calean Robinson and J-LOVE. Last year they did not seem to have a backup plan for the heir apparant to Jimmer who picked Oregon over BYU, and then it became obvious Rose pays his tithing as Matty Carlino fell into his lap. Regardless, I understand Jordan Chatman is a sign and send so if BYU can land Calean and J-LOVE they will join Tyler Haws to fill out the roster for 2012-2013.

I agree with Katz that Harrison will be the sleeper in this group. The kid will impress and should help the team avoid a big slide.

I agree with Rose as well. I think a really good goal is to make the NCAA tourney, but I think we will be real young so it is going to be tough.

Saying that, I think Rose really has a good thing going and that BYU will have some really good years after Haws comes home and this core group gets experience and familiarity with playing with each other.

Yep, Haws will make that 2013 team go. On a depressing side note, his midrange game was a large reason BYU didn't earn a trip to Houston this year. Damn the missionary program!

Considering that Katz and I are the only ones to ever demonstrate Zylstra love, a thinking man would read into it that we get our information regarding Zylstra and his potential impact from the same source. I just wish he didn't play like ass last year when all I kept hearing was how well he was doing and how much he had developed.

Rumor has it Josh Sharp has asked out of his scholarship agreement with the Utes. Utah has granted his release however they put a stipulation saying he was not allowed to transfer in state or in the Pac-12. His family is appealing this as it sounds like he would like to attend BYU.

I was not real high on him coming out of high school he is a lean 6'7 wing. Good athlete but the jury is still out on whether or not he is a D-1 player.

I think he is a role playing shooter. But if he could put on some weight and strength so he could defend inside he could play the 4 in BYU's system. If he is serious he could go to a JC for one year and then transfer to BYU. Now that I think about it, unless he signed something with Utah recently I don't think they can get in his way as I thought he was a walk on before his mission. In any case I doubt many schools will give him a scholie without him going to a JC for a year and proving himself capable. I don't see him as something vitally important to BYU.

Wrubell says Sharp to BYU...stronger statement than previous rumors that he is just looking to transfer and considering BYU:

I am hearing from people unaffiliated with BYU that Josh Sharp plans to transfer from Utah to BYU once he complete his LDS mission in Texas.

Sharp is a Lone Peak HS product who signed with Utah and red-shirted with the Utes prior to his mission. Last week, the school released a statement in which it stated that the university "must allow other schools to contact men's basketball player Josh Sharp due to a technicality with his National Letter of Intent. Sharp, who redshirted as a freshman at Utah in 2008-09 before leaving on an LDS church mission, signed an NLI with the Utes on Nov. 14, 2007. The NLI must be accompanied with a financial aid agreement for it to be valid. Sharp did sign a financial aid agreement, but not simultaneously with his NLI."

Long story short, Sharp can choose to transfer to another Division I institution and play immediately. Word is he will choose to enroll at BYU and play for Dave Rose's Cougars this fall.

Listed at 6'7" prior to his mission, Sharp may now be closer to 6'8" on a 180-190 pound frame. An athletic wing on a loaded Lone Peak squad, Sharp is not known as a slasher a la Kyle Collinsworth but a hustler a la Logan Magnusson, yet with hops that will have him playing above the rim.

Reports I get are that the former Utah staff was surprised at just how good Sharp was once they got a couple of months into his freshman season, but by then the decision had been made to redshirt Sharp. Jim Boylen is said to believe that Sharp could have been a three-year starter for the Utes. If and when he ends up in Provo, he is sure to help the Cougars and keep the Lone Peak pipeline flowing.

Sharp has better athleticism than Magnusson, but to say he'll play above the rim is a little strong, IMO.
