He stepped up his game in the Big East conference tourney and now in the NCAA. Now his team is playing for the title.
I agree except for the fact that he was 6-15 tonight with 3 straight turnovers down the stretch that kept Kentucky in it. Had they lost he would have gotten the Jimmer treatment after Florida.

      But they won.

      And they keep winning.

In a sense, Jimmer is penalized because of losing Davies, which is not his fault, but it is crazy to discount all of Wrights winning when it matters most.

BYU didn't win the MWC tourney, UConn won the Big East tourney and played more games to do it. BYU made it to the Sweet 16, wright has UConn playing for the title.

Personally, I would give back 4 or so ppg from Jimmer to have BYU winning the MWC tourney and playing for the title in the final game. It isn't even a question in my mind. That Jimmer dominated TCU and Colorado State and SDSU in the middle of the season seems irrelevant right now. What if UConn wins on Monday? Are people still going to be rolling out Jimmers PPG?

I understand that, my point was nobody cares about Kembas poor shooting because they are winning. Just like Reillys article would have looked really dumb had BYU beaten Florida.

But does this mean if Butler wins Shelvin Mack or Matt Howard deserve National POY?

Probably not because nobody considered either of them a candidate throughout the year. Butler is a Cinderella story..an 8 seed playing for the title.

Winning matters and wright has had a nice post season, not without it's flaws. Jimmer didn't shoot very well against Florida, wright doesnt shoot well against Kentucky, but one team wins and one loses. The winner will get the benefit of the doubt, that isn't anything new.

Jimmer had several crappy turnovers in OT against Florida, which possibly cost BYU the game. Jumping into the air and not passing the ball didn't help, shooting that quick 3 didn't help, etc.

Well, if I am not mistaken the Wooden and Naismith votes were cast before the Final Four teams were set. So Lamb getting his team to the Title game shouldn't have any impact on the voting. Also, 25% of the Naismith vote is determined by fans. If the Cousy award is any indication of how the fan vote with go, Jimmer wins that 25% in a landslide.

And what the hell. I hope your slippers break.

I hope so, but there is an air of desperation to that line of thinking (I'm thinking it too, btw) If BYU fans are praying that the award does not consider the final four or championship, then they are basically conceding that Wright probably deserves it more but Jimmer wins on a timing technicality.

What was the recent award that Jimmer lost...it had a fan voting component, too, no?

I think Kemba is legit and a good player. But he is not the shooter or scorer that Jimmer is. He clearly has the better team and as DDD said they keep winning which has to count for something.

It is pretty impressive that a month ago his POY hopes were completely dead and after that run in the Big East tournament and the NCAA tournament not only has he revived them but him and Jimmer are neck and neck.

I do think its funny that Kemba broke the Big East tournament scoring record and scored the most points ever in any conference tournament (Big east is the only conference tourney where you can play 5 games so it is a bit tainted). Kemba scored 120 points in 5 games, Jimmer scored 112 in 3 games at the MWC tourney.

He lost the Cousy for the nations best senior point guard. However he won the popular vote which only counted for 1 out of 40 votes.

This is actually one you can't really argue that Jimmer deserved over Kemba, mainly because the criteria says top point guard. Kemba does not run the point. Napier does.

Cousy award for top PG. I don't know how much the fan vote mattered as they didn't say. Kemba only received 5% of the fan vote to Jimmer's 42%. Hell DJ Gay had more with 14%. So I am guessing that it didn't account for much especially since there were only 30 real voters on the panel.

                    • I think the other thing in Wrights favor is that, fair or not, he is perceived as a better defender. BYU fans respond by saying that Jimmers job isn't to lock down his player, but that isn't really a response. It is a non-response. Which player is the better defender, regardless of what Jimmers assignment is on the team?

Basically, the Davies suspension probably will also cost BYU a deeper tourney run and the NPOY.

Neither one is a good defender. Kemba does not defend at all but he looks like the better defender because he is quicker. It is more deception than anything. I want to know why more teams don't bust his midget ass down the post more often.

If Kemba and Jimmer were to play one on one I think Jimmer could score on Kemba especially if he went down low on every play. Kemba would get by Jimmer a few times but Jimmer would have the ability to stop him once or twice.

Consider the contrast in competition. Wright's team was middle of the Big East. It's like if Air Force were playing for the national championship tomorrow.
