The Amare Stoudemire quote got me thinking about race and the Honor Code. I'm not fond of ascribing race as a motivation for anything. I think generally it doesn't fit. That said, when was the last time a white boy/girl became an Honor Code casualty (I'm thinking late 90s)? Given the small percentage of our sports teams that are racial minorities, they seem dramatically over-represented in Honor Code issues. Is this an issue of visibility? Is this a cultural issue and the Honor Code is more acceptable to a group with Puritanic and Victorian roots or hiding sex is second nature to those with Puritanic and Victorian roots? Is this a punishment issue and the people issuing the punishment are bigots? What is going on here when the young men we are kicking out of school for Honor Code violations fall into a highly underrepresented racial minority?

Race is A factor but probably not THE factor. You can't ignore the fact that most of the honor code violations have involved minorities.

I think it is clearly a factor given the over-representation of minorities in Honor Code death penalty cases. I really wonder why and when was the last time a white boy or girl got the death penalty.

BTW, I'm also certain that men are highly over-represented in the Honor Code death penalty as compared to women. I knew a girl at BYU who had 5 of her "partners" kicked out of BYU before they proceeded past probation for her. In my experience, she was also the aggressor. I guess the old belief that the girls aren't really guilty is not such an old belief in the HCO.
