I'm very familiar with BYU and while I'm not surprised by these types of things, I think they are terrible for both the University and the individual. If he was having sex, it certainly does help him spiritually or temporally to boot him out of school mid-semester.

If he violated the Honor Code, he is done the moment the University finds out about it. They cant give the impression that BYU is manipulating or relaxing the enforcement of rules to appease fans or improve athletic competition results. The timing is not the problem; the underlying policy and Honor Code are.

Alcohol wouldn't result in suspension for the rest of the year. A few games maybe but not gonzo. Now serious drugs maybe but for the reaction I'm guessing it had to be the s-e-x.
