Doh. I thought this was the Jimmerphilia discussion. They all seem to end up in the same place anymore.

Jimmer vs. Andre Miller is actually an entertaining debate. I've always been a big fan of Andre Miller. Like Blue Hair I cheered heartily for Utah that March. Unfairly, I think his most amazing performances during that run to the final four are buried because Utah didn't win it all. So they've been relegated to an ESPN page, 2-3 among several. That they share space on the same page with Gerry McNamara's game against BYU is a tragedy.

We'll see how Jimmer does in the tournament, but he is already lightyears ahead of Andre Miller in terms of notoriety. Given the whole package, he'll be remembered for a long time.

It has been fun watching you guys this year. Enjoy it while it lasts as you don't know if/when it will happens again. My only regret was that I was a poor medical student on my most time intensive rotation when we were in the final four. I really wanted to go simply because I knew there was a chance they it would be my only chance to see Utah in a final four.

I agree wholeheartedly. 1998 was my last year of med school. I had completed all of my important rotations. Applications for residency were completed and I was awaiting interviews. I think I had to finish my neurology rotation to qualify for graduation. Basically, school was over for me. (Sorry JIC). My FIL is a huge Utah basketball fan. Other than his time in the navy and at Stanford for graduate school, he has had at least one season ticket for Utah basketball since he was 8 years old. He was more than happy to have me and my wife accompany him to Anaheim and San Antonio. We had a blast. The games were great. He paid for everything. I have spent the last 13 years trying to make it up to him.

As for Jimmer, he's phenomenal and a terrific player. It's way too early to compare him to Andre Miller, though. Maybe after this year's NCAA tournament. BYU fans should enjoy this. Players like Jimmer or Miller don't come along often.

I was never one of those BYU football/Utah basketball fans but even I couldn't help but get caught up in the experience. My parents and siblings all went to the U and despite only my mother enjoying sports (weird, I know), and especially the Final Four run, I had no choice. She thought KVH should have received honorary church membership after that year. That, or just straight translation.

Lest you think she bleeds only red she wrote this jimmertastic email to Tom Kirkland at KSL just last week:

"I think with Jimmer Fredette's curly hair, good looks, strong body, and striking resembalance to Michelangelo's David, someone ought to put a BYU uniform on the statue and replace the Discus with a basketball! If I had the ability to add the graphics, I would but I think somone on your staff could do it!

I thought the same thing when I went to the Fiesta Bowl. Glad I was wrong about getting back to a BCS bowl.

Heh. I told my brother that we had to go to the fiesta bowl because us didn't want to carry a decade if regret like I did about the final four. I used the same line on him for the sugar bowl as well

I'm not a Ute historian, sorry. I just remember her passionate pleas to the television those 2-3 years. (I was still in college and "home" quite a bit during that time).
