I think junkie should put some heat on Chris Hill. That expression of concern coming from a diehard BYU fan would really send a message. Junkie, be sure to cc President Young and the entire Board of Trustees. And thank you for caring!

Boylen and I am not sure it is even close. Giac was that bad.

Boylen is giving Giacoletti a good run for his money in this regard. We just lost to a team that could only claim wins against Division III schools. And at least Giacoletti could bring in players with talent -- I'll take Ray's top 5 HS signees vs. Boylen's top 5 HS signees and my side will win by 20.
Always thought going pac12 would buy Boylen a fresh start, but that last game was an abomination. What is going on? Jettison him faster than garbage off a listing cruise ship already.
What's the use going to the mighty Pac 12 when you cannot beat the dregs of the WCC?
As much as I love Boylen as a person, it's obvious that he doesn't have what it takes to be a college head coach. I don't think it would be a good idea to fire him now, but Utah needs to let him go at the end of the season.
The only positive in this entire mess that is Utah basketball is that the Utes will be in the PAC12 next season, as it will be a better opportunity for Dr. Hill to hire somebody. He won't get a name coach, but there will be someone out there who would be willing to come to SLC knowing that he'll be coaching in one of the big-name conferences. It's still easier to recruit to one of the big six conferences than to the MWC, even if it's to a lousy team.
I'll never think that Boylen is as bad as Giacoletti ever was because Boylen at least tries to coach. Giac just sat on his hands and wondered what the hell to do.

Agreed. Giac was worse than Boylen. But didn't Giac take your boys to the sweet 16?
Too bad Boylen cannot last through the first year of Pac12. That would give Hill a lot more options.
I like Randy Rahe too, can't figure out why utes don't like him.
Andrew Bogut took the Utes to the Sweet 16. The consensus POY can make any coach look good.
As for Rahe, I'm wondering if that he was with Majerus is the problem. Majerus may have destroyed any chance that any of his assistants ever find their way back to Utah.

Giacoletti had the benefit of inheriting a team that was coached by Rick Majerus the previous year. The players hadn't forgotten all the things that Majerus had taught them and it showed in the way they played. It masked Giacoletti's horrible coaching. It also helped that we had the best player in college hoops.

It's not acceptable that Boylen, after 4 years, is still building the program around JUCOs. It's not just that he isn't winning according to Utah's tradition and resultant expectations. It's that he's not building a program. That's why Giacoletti got the axe. The program wasn't going anywhere. Giacoletti had one very good year with Majerus' leavings, and then was floundering with all these foreigners and JUCOs. Now that Utah is in the Pac 12 it should be easier to recruit there. Even I could tell that De maria and Kupets were likely busts. De Maria was declined by Wyoming.
Last year's early offseason debacle highlights the problem. He has not managed and built a program.
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
