  • Where is the Utah vs Hawaii thread.........

Let me guess none of you stayed up late enough to watch it.

Probably a smart idea. Sadly I did and Utah may be the worst shooting team in the country.

I really tried, but after 4 straight nights of minimal sleep it didn't happen.

From what I've seen this year Utah has one shooter. Watkins is good at driving to the hoop. Haven't seen much of O'Brien, so who knows.

The Utes have a guy on their team named Jiggy, is that correct?

They have that going for them, which is nice.

Also the most exciting thing to happen was before the game two Mississippi st. players (Renardo Sidney and Elgin Bailey) got in a brawl in the stands with each other.

          I challenge that claim.

The biggest problem that I saw was 2 assists, 18 turnovers, 2 fucking assists....

The Utes are a maddening team. They really do not have much outside shooting. Clyburn is solid, but he should not be the teams #1 three point shooting option. Kupets can make a few and then goes really cold. Glover and Jiggy are about the same...erratic at best. Outside shooting is an issue, no question. But the slashing to the basket players, the Utes are very good. Too bad that only being good at one thing will lead to an average Ute team.

I DVR'd it because I wanted to see Clyburn play since I haven't yet. But after seeing the boxscore I'll probably pass.

Sadly the utes were only down 4 at the half and they came out ice cold in the 2nd half.

It seems that they are a team full of athletes and slashers (as utestar said) but they lack shooters and a post presence on the offensive end.

Austin Freeman's line so far this season:

                      MIN. 31.4 PPG 18.9 RPG 2.7 APG 2.3 TOPG 1.3 FG% .568 FT% .865 3% .492
He's a perimiter player like Jimmer, and his 3% is higher than Jimmer's FG%. His FG% is like a big man's. He has better players around him absorbing shots, and he has played against better teams.

I assume you saw the Memphis score last night.

Better players around him defeats your own argument. Better players means more open looks which means he should have a higher FG%. Thanks for playing. Austin Freeman has not seen a single double team this year because unlike Jimmer his game does not demand one.

Here is video of the fight:

Sidney was suspended his entire freshman season and the first nine games of this season. He has already been in a fight during practice, has played two games (in just his second game went for 19 and 6) and now he gets in this fight with a teammate who hadn't had any problems prior to this. Yikes.

What is frustrating is the big men (Foster and Washburn). Foster is awesome in blocking shots but absolutely no leg strength which is the reason he can't score underneath because he is pushed out of his scoring comfort zone. He also struggles with rebounding because he can't block out. He doesn't have the strength to do it continually.

Washburn has some skills offensively but he struggles with strength as well. He also loses concentration throughout games. One minute he will block a shot and then post up and finish strongly...2 minutes later, he is out of position, gives up an offensive rebound and then turns around and fumbles the ball out of bounds.

Jay Watkins is high energy. He actually would be very good on BYU's team. Crashing the boards, doing the dirty work...but when he is your first option down low to post up and get you points, he will struggle. If I could go back in time and have him play along side Bogut with Jackson and Jacobsen outside...it would have been brilliant.

I have no doubt that the Utes lead the nation in taking the ball to the hoop. Too bad the Utes don't really have anyone outside to hit a shot nor a big man to dish to down low. I am seeing a 15-17 win season this year.
