I know, right? You should have seen the guns held to the heads of these schools.

On the other hand, schools have asked for money to accept an invitation to stay. like when Texas asked for say 5 million more per year to stay in the Big 12?

    Keep reaching, TU.

Did you mean "bad" like "way better than with Utah on it"?

Utah had an RPI of 9 in 2008-09.

Playing USU at home or away is a always good game and is lots of fun. Hoops isn't the BCS. Dropping a game in Logan is not the worst thing that can happen in a season. In fact, I would say there are some seasons that losing an early difficult game in hostile territory is a fantastic growing experience for any team. IN addition the USU game always helps your RPI and in almost every year USU is a tourney team. I don't see how playing them in any venue is a negative TBH

Utah is afraid. Plain and simple.
I think the other coaches in the state of Utah are of the opinion that Stew Morrill is an asshole.

With what Rose did and now Boylen, I think the motivation is personal more than anything else.

I don't know if Stew is an asshole or not, just that is my opinion on why the other coaches are purposely trying to screw Stew and leave him with his home and homes with Cal State Bakersfield.

I am not outraged I just think it is a poor decision by Utah. I would feel the same way if BYU made the same decision.

Asshole smashole. Regardless of Stew's assholiness it is still in the programs best interest to play USU every year.

Neither side intends to discontinue their rivalry with the Aggies. I think they just both want to take advantage of a chance to stick it to Stew for a year or two and let him whine to the press.

                  These are clearly personal issues.

Let me be clear, if they thought Stew was an asshole but they thought that the trip to Logan was as likely to end in a W as an L, they would have no issue with going. Losing is the first thing they want to avoid. I don't think much of either Boylen or Rose's testicular fortitude for these slights of USU, but I believe the reason they are so personally motivated is that they both dislike Disco Stew.

BYU did once and it got exactly what it wanted. It followed the same pattern. A contract ended, BYU indicated that the contract would change from what Stew wanted or interpreted as the status quo, Stew whines to the press, Aggies demonstrate their super creamy male camel toe syndrome, the bigger brother gets pissed about Stew whining to the press before the details are worked out, Utah State replaces a good team with Cal State Bakersfield, the rivalry continues after a one year hiatus under the terms dictated by the pissed off bigger brother.

I agree it's in BYU and Utah's best interest to play in the Spectrum. It's a hostile place with a very good basketball team. It's great preparation for conference play and tourney play.

Who is Utah going to replace USU with on their schedule? If they go back east and play a decent team then they will be okay. If they bring in Eastern Washington or Montana State Tech to the Huntsman Center to play in front of 2,000 fans then you lose something in your team. Playing at the Spectrum early in the year is as good of a conference environment as you can get without the possibility to taking a conference loss.

I am aware of this and if you search my posts on the matter you will find I was not happy with BYU's decision.

This thread title is misleading. I'm pretty sure USU just bigtimed Utah just as they would continue to do if they utes weren't chicken shit. Similar to Flystripper, I would feel the same way if BYU were afraid to go up to Logan.

There's a lot that goes into decisions like this, so writing this one off as Utah being afraid to play USU is pretty silly, IMO.

You overstate this as it pertains to basketball. What exactly goes into it? Basketball schedules are not made years in advance. Every year the Utes will play 10+ non conference games. There is plenty of room on the schedule. Playing difficult teams on the road especially in-state rivals is great experience and does little to no damage in terms of making the tournament. The only thing that consistently losing to your in-rival in situations like this does is make the losers embarrassed.
