What would Boylen's conference record have to be to save his job?

I'd say a minimum of 10-6, which would put Utah at what? 17-15 or something like that?

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Not trolling at all--I just thought it was weird that SU called a loss against Wyoming followed by a win against NM.

SO, like Ray Giacoletti did Dave Rose has an all-American with a questionable supporting cast. I wonder if Rose will achieve as much as Giacoletti did with a similar hand--runaway MWC title and Sweet 16 run including second round win over Big 12 champ Oklahoma.

I predict Rose won't match Giacoletti's achievement. Remember this prediction. Hold me to it.

The next 5 games for the Utes are:

          @ AFA
          San Diego
          BYU
          @ Wyoming
          New Mexico

We could definitely start conference play 0-5. Best case scenario is 3-2 and that is a really best case scenario where we pick up 1 victory against a team that we should lose to and get both toss up games. Worst case scenario is obviously 0-5. I would say the likely scenario is 1-4.

Conference play is looking really ugly this year for the Utes. I'm going to go ahead and consider all games against BYU, New Mexico, UNLV, and San Diego St as very likely losses. That right there puts us at 0-8 in conference. Which means to be even be respectable we would need to go 8-0 against CSU, AFA, TCU, and Wyoming, which isn't going to happen. Likely conference record for the Utes is going to be somewhere between 4-12 or 6-10.

It was nice to know you Boylen, but we are going to need a new coach this offseason.

I think I may have been mispronouncing something here...

Was the old Utah coach "JACK-o-letti" or "GEE-UH-coletti?"

After he was hired they put up billboards around SLC with his face and the caption "You don't know Giac!"

I don't think conference record means anything right now as far as Boylen's future is concerned. You've got more than enough ammo to pull the trigger if that's the direction you want to go. If you're insistent on keeping him, what could happen in conference play that's worse than losing to USD? Why leave open the possibility to change your mind with an above-average conference season?

No, if the decision to fire Boylen at season's end has already been made, nothing short of the MWC tourney and NCAA Tournament can save it. I keep hearing "No Dance, No Chance," from enough people who know to disregard it. I'm guessing that the buyout isn't anywhere close to a dollar-for-dollar amount for what's left on his contract. I'd be surprised if Utah ended up owing him more than one year's salary as things stand now.

                            1. Will Gordon Monson attend the post-game press conference? We know it would be the first time this year.

                            2. Will Utah's PR person be prepared to physically restrain Boylen after Monson asks his first question?

Then the onus is really on BYU to match Giacoletti/Utah's 2004-05 season, because BYU will certainly end up with a much higher seed than Utah's No. 6 that season. So conference strength is really a non-issue here.

Not making the Sweet 16 this year would be an epic flop for BYU, since it will get a cakewalk first-round game, and a second-round game against no better than a 6 seed, and easily could face a double-digit seed in the second round.
