  • There are some interesting college prospects playing games down in Utah County tonight.

At Orem, Gavin Baxter of Timpview plays against Overland, CO at 3:15
At Orem, future BYU recruit, Steven Beo of Richland, WA plays agains Orem at 7
At Orem, Lone Peak and Frank Jackson plays against a solid Wasatch Academy team and their best player, 6'4" Koby McEwen.

At AF, American Fork and Brendan Bailey play against Brighton and USU(?) recruit Brock Miller at 3:15
At AF, Mountain Crest junior, Jaxon Brenchley plays againt Corner Canyon at 5
At AF, Gonzaga recruit Jesse Wade and Davis play against Bingham's Yoeli Childs, Josh Newbold and Jared Holman. Bingham looks like the best team in the state early in the season with their froncourt - the three kids I just mentioned going 6'9", 6'8" and 6'8" respectively.

Do any of these kids play on any of Utah's AAU teams?

Which appear to be the most likely to contribute at the D1 level?
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

I'm not sure about AAU as I don't follow AAU ball at all, but in my opinion, the best of that group are Jackson, Wade, Beo (based on Vandelay and Grace's info), Childs and Miller. I don't know much about the others, but those I just mentioned should make an impact at the D1 level based on what little more I do know about them.

Tonight, I'm actually going to watch David Maynard of Herriman who is one of the state's top scorers.

        • I will be down in Orem to watch Frank play tonight. Remember Lone Peak also has Christian Popoola who is a transfer from Las Vegas. 6'3 200 pounds and only a sophomore. He already has a UNLV and SDSU offer.

            • If you guys want to see a Utah team that is absolutely loaded go watch Wasatch Academy play. They have kids from all over the country and they are all top 150 kids. I can't believe how good this team is.

              • Just got done watching Frank Jackson and Lone Peak take on Wasatch Academy.

First of all a quick rundown of Wasatch Academys roster:

Koby McEwen- 3 star kid, SR. His final two are Baylor and Ole Miss.
Bryson Langdon- sophomore. 2017 top 150 kid.
Shamiel Stevenson- is a Canadian kid who is the top sophomore in the country and played on the under 18 national team. He is only a soph and has multiple offers. He will play wherever he wants.
Josip Vrankic- 6'8 forward that handles the ball like a point guard. Another Canadian kid who would be the best big man on BYUs team right now. He is so skilled in the post, first play of the game he has a sweet drop step with a left handed finish. Again when its all said and done he will play wherever he wants.
Barzin Bardan- 6'11 again only a sophomore and looks fairly skilled. I would say he ends up as a low major D-1 kid.
Jackson Rowe- 6'6 junior who again will play at a lower level D-1 school
Cody John- this kid was the 2A MVP last year and actually doesn;t have any offers, I could see a team like UVU or SUU snatching him.

With all that talent on the floor the best player by far and it wasn't close was Frank Jackson. Frank looked like a man among boys. He is the quickest end to end with the ball I have ever seen. He has a quick first step and can stop on a dime with the pull up jumper. He can hit the three, he had a few monster dunks. He was abusing these boys from Wasatch. He ended up with 28 points but it felt like 40. Nobody could guard him. He is also relentless and just keeps attacking. If Dave Rose does not land him it will be the biggest miss of his career. Frank is the best Utah high school player I have ever seen. He deserves every bit of hype he is getting.

Another kid who was very good was that Christian Popoola kid. He is only as sophomore but looks like a smaller version of Charles Abouo. He uses his body so well and attacks the rim every chance he gets. He needs to work on his handles and his decision making. But he will also be a big time player. He had 24 tonight.

Thanks for the write-up. I've know about McEwen, but had no idea Wasatch Academy's roster was so loaded outside of him. Trying to figure out when I can go watch them, it looks like they play mostly a national schedule with very few games against Utah teams and all at home in Mount Pleasant. Interesting that in the first game of the season, Richfield came within 3 going down 63-60.

                      Yes.

Also, tonight at Orem, Lone Peak plays against Overland, CO which could be a great game as Overland looks pretty damn good with their 5 star junior, De'Ron Davis.

Did Lone Peak defeat Wasatch Academy? It sounds as if Wasatch Academy is a bit like Findley Prep in Las Vegas. Just researched and saw Lone Peak won.

                        • Frank Jackson is ridiculous. ESPN has him as the 31st ranked junior and a 4 star kid. I doubt there is a better junior guard in the country. He's at least top 10 and a 5 star guy. As complete an offensive game as any guard I've seen in HS the last 3-4 years. He can do it all on the offensive end. 43 and 13 rebs tonight against an Overland team with at least 3 D1 guys and his immediate matchup a senior D1 commit. Jackson and De'Ron Davis play different positions, but Jackson is a better basketball player. As CJ said, it would be a huge loss for Rose if they don't get him, but on the other hand, it would be almost unbelievable if BYU did land him. Coach K, Calipari, etc, should be begging him to play at their schools.

Also, Popoola is legit. Just a sophomore, so it's hard to judge how good he might be, but he's really good. Very good win for LP tonight.

You weren't kidding. Kid is a special talent. Iirc, when he dropped 30 on Lone Peak as a freshman, he was only about 5'11, now he is a legit 6'3 and it's almost unfair.

Another thing that not many people talk about with Frank is how good of a defender he is as well. Last year in the state tourney he shut down the Wade kid that is going to Gonzaga. Frank is the real deal. Very special talent. He is also young for his age.
