Well, he blocks shots and dunks like a real big guy.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostNo I didn't watch the whole thing but there's a great sequence at 51:45 where Mika blocks a shot and then gets a dunk on the other end. The commentary is horrible but they gush quite a bit over Mika.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I watched the entire game. Very impressed with the overall talent from both teams. Some future NBA guys there to be sure. I like that Mika ran his mouth the whole game. He'd crack up the big guy in the long sleeves on the other team, then kick his ass on the other end. He was having a blast. Seems to really enjoy and thrive on contact. Obviously has the motor and athletic ability to block shots, but seems to be smart with it and has excellent timing. Dominated in every aspect of the game from a big man's perspective. Looked every bit of 6'10" but I'm in another state, so can't be sure.
Levine(sp?) out of Bothell (UCLA commit) looks like a future star although he didn't really play that well in that game.I'm like LeBron James.

I think Mika will influence games more than any freshman 5 BYU has had since Shawn Bradley. Fundamentally, 6'10" guys who are that athletic can just influence games because they are 6'10" and very athletic. Throw in the fact that he is still a pretty good basketball player and I am pretty optimistic about the role he plays next year. I doubt he scores as much as Trent Plaisted did as a RS FR, but I think he will be an overall better player. If BYU can land a decent, I will define "decent" as a guy who can guard opposing 4's in man to man score 8 ppg and get 5 rpg, senior transfer at the 4, BYU could be much improved from last year.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI watched the entire game. Losing Tummala still hurts, but to be honest that pain is more likely to be felt the year after next when Mika is gone.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Hard not to be excited about Mika's prospects. I think Doleac is a realistic comparision.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI think Mika will influence games more than any freshman 5 BYU has had since Shawn Bradley. In that game, nobody was boxing out - if Mika wanted an offensive rebound, it was his. Seems like he must have had close to 10 offensive boards. My favorite play of the game was at some point in the fourth quarter, Mika set a pick near the top of the key for the PG, motioned for the PG to shoot it, immediately ran to the rim, gobbled up the missed 3 attempted and dunked it home.
In a game full of talented HS players, Mika was simply a man among boys - in part because he played harder than everyone else and partly because he was just bigger and more athletic than anyone else.I'm like LeBron James.

His name is Frank Bartley, and he's from Louisiana

He seems to have a legit offer from Auburn, but nobody of consequence beyond that offer. Interesting pickup and consider me surprised they went after another perimeter player. My guess is they are banking on a SR transfer, who has graduated, to fill the final scholarship. My guess is he will be a 4/5 player.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostHis name is Frank Bartley, and he's from Louisiana

I found somewhere that Marquette had him visit their campus at some point in the past.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostHe seems to have a legit offer from Auburn, but nobody of consequence beyond that offer. For a non-LDS player that BYU got after this late in the game he strikes me as a pretty good pickup. He should get to play some next year, especially early in the year and if he is actually good I would think he will take much of Anson Winder's minutes and could end up playing perhaps as high as 10-15 mpg. It will be interesting if he is groomed to be a pg or more of a wing.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI found somewhere that Marquette had him visit their campus at some point in the past.
I think this indicates the writing is on the wall for Winder. I see his minutes decreasing and likely him not being on the team in 14-15. Right now there are 8 perimeter players scheduled to be on scholarship for 14-15. I would think one of them will have to go. I just don't see the NBA having much success peeling away either Carlino or Haws. I doubt Fischer or Halford or Collinsworth are going anywhere either. Jordan Chatman is scheduled to be home from his mission and I get the feeling his family likes BYU so I expect to see him on the roster. That leaves Bartley or Winder and my prediction is Bartley is not being brought in to hit the road early. Wuap would be downright violent is a fellow NOLAander was kicked out of the BYU that soon. It also leads me to believe my hopes that TJ Haws would play a year before his mission are not going to materialize.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Utah and Fordham.Originally posted by Surfah View PostNot bad this late in the game. 247sports lists official visits to Utah, Marquette, Auburn and Fordham.
Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I don't wanna see Winder axed. If Martineau was rostered for 3 years then BYU can carry Winder for four. I don't want Rose to get a rep for kicking players off like Majerus did.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostFor a non-LDS player that BYU got after this late in the game he strikes me as a pretty good pickup. I expect Winder to be gone after next year and he will have had 4 years of scholarship from BYU. He RS his first year and next year he will conclude his junior year in eligibility. If he graduates he could even transfer to another D1 school.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostI don't wanna see Winder axed.
