I would concede your point if you had selected 20, but that extra 10 doesn't happen that often. This is due to short quarters, lots of zone primarily focusing on the best player, and generally a lot fewer shooting fouls called. The exceptions to this are big semi-skilled kids playing against shorter competition, or Randy/Robbie Reid-like teams that allow one player to take 80% of the shots.

LP played as tough of schedule as any HS team I've ever seen, this year, and went against lots of top talent. I would be surprised if more than 2 players went for 30 against them all year. But maybe I'm underestimating what type of player you are/were.
He's related to Montague. SMR can obviously ball!

Cute they want some attention for their boys. In many years at BYU they might have a chance of being go to guys or "A" players. Methinks they are both going to be "B" level contributors for their careers in Cougartown, but they will likely play on some really good BYU teams.

I am happy to have them. They are the exact kind of talent that we currently lack in tier two.

I'll have to tell Andrew he needs to produce better highlight reels. I had no clue he was coaching at SLCC. He was BYU's manager during the Jimmer years. His dad is former BYU point guard Mike May. He set a BYU record for most assists in a game as a freshman that still stands. He's the best guy I have ever played with. He was twice my age and could shoot from anywhere. Plus he had mad handles and would pass like Rubio. If you were on his team your head had to be on a swivel because you might catch a no look pass with your dome. He coached our rival Hart for five years before stepping down to be an assistant at UVSC with their women's team. If Andrew turns out to be half the coach his old man was, he'll be something.

            • I don't know that it's a spectacular highlight reel - but I like that it shows a combination of someone who is willing to drive and take contact as well as someone who has some pretty good range. At least, it didn't look like he was surprised to be hitting those 3's from Jimmer range - and they didn't show any that had him shooting within a foot of the line.

Relatively speaking, he's been on fire the last two games.

                    • Since I'm down on Rose at the moment, I must fall back to the position I have held for years. I would advise an aspiring big man to avoid committing to BYU. Mika should go elsewhere if he wants to develop as a big man. Stew Morril would be a better choice due to his superiour coaching and offense orientated to bigs, but Mika would have better opportunities than that.

I think you are wrong on the development of bigs at BYU.

Let's look at the bigs we have had under Rose:

Trent Plaisted: He went from getting zero minutes and only playing in 5 games (partially due to injury) as a freshman under Steve Cleveland, to scoring 13.8 per game on 52% shooting in his first year under Dave Rose. His scoring went down about a point the following year but his shooting numbers were up to 55% and he was sharing time with Keena Young. His final year he goes for 15 and 8 and works himself in to the 2nd round of the NBA draft. He has had a nice european career and was just in camp with the Clippers.

Keena Young- was scoring 6 points per game under Steve Cleveland struggling to find time, he ends up winning MWC player of the year averages 17 points per game and has carved out a solid pro career overseas. Including a league MVP.

Chris Miles- 2 points per game the first year after his mission, with no offensive game. 7pts 4 rebounds the following year but still seeing limited minutes, sees his minutes decrease and suffers some injuries going for 6 and 5, his shooting percentages do continue to increase. He was limited offensively to begin with but showed enough signs of life at BYU that he is now in his third year playing in Europe. Another big with a pro career.

Noah Hartsock- 2 points per game as a freshman with no real position, the following year he takes a nice step forward averaging 6 and 5 on a team dominated by guard play and as the 5th option. He starts to carve a niche as a stretch 4, and develop a back to the basket game (That usually ended with a face up jumper). His junior season he was once again surrounded by Jimmer and co. getting limited shots but playing well along side Davies averaged 9 and 6. Similar to Davies Jimmer and Jax graduate and Noah is asked to along with Davies shoulder the load. He scores 16 a game on 56% shooting. He is now playing pro ball in Europe.

Brandon Davies- plays 13 minutes per game, came in as a gangly freshman that had trouble controlling his limbs and zero back to the basket game. Scores 5 points per game. He takes a huge leap from his freshman to sophomore year shooting over 55% from the floor more than doubling his points per game and his rebounds. He does all of this on a team dominated again by Jimmer and Emery. Jimmer and Jax graduate and Davies along with Noah become the go to guys. We go from an perimeter oriented team to one that tries to dominate inside. The team adjusts very well and Davies scores 15 per game rips down 8 rebounds while shooting 52%. Every year he keeps getting better. The development continued this season as he became the focal point of the offense and demanded a double team. He still manages to score 18 points per game, pull down 8 rebounds and shoot 54% from the floor. He will also have a nice pro career in Europe.

The jury is still out on Nate Austin, Ian Harward and some others. But every featured big man Dave Rose has had during his tenure has played pro ball, even some that weren't featured like Vuk Ivanovic have gone on to play. His system works and as guys graduate he plugs the next guy in. Look at the PPG progression you don't get that kind of production just by playing more minutes. Jimmer and Jax left and everyone focused on Davies and NOah yet they were still very effective and we won a tourney game.
