That's hard to look at. As someone once told me, "not everyone is blessed with girth."

        EDIT: Bret and Bart Jepsen
I don't think they were twins. I believe Bret was older by 2 years. He couldn't stay healthy, IIRC, and Bart seemed to have some potential to become pretty good until Eugene Edgarson of Arizona ended his career with a vicious blow to the head.

I probably just assumed the twin thing, then. They were tall and skinny, right?

It was Bret who was ko'd by mean Eugene. He definitely had way more potential than Bart.

This is certainly a reasonable gamble, a walk on, who is somewhere over seven feet, the internet claims between 7'3 and 7'6, that may or may not develop. He attends practice and perhaps improves. If anything he should have some shot blocking abilities.

I can see it now. BYU is in the Tourney at a pivotal point when Nate Austin gets an untimley fourth foul five minutes into the game, when in steps Hamson, holding the opposing center to no points on four blocks and becomes the hero of the Tribe. Coug fans alike start dreaming of him becoming the next Shawn Bradley and rapture ensues.

UCLA took a chance on a skinny kid just because his older sister was a great hoopster. Worked out well for everyone save Spike Lee!

Mark Eaton had a sister that was a great hoopster?

He's not going to develop. Tons of health problems. He is way too fragile.

The Jepsen brothers are Roswell, New Mexico legends. Bret wasn't all that skinny by my recollection.

I don't know much about Bret as he played and Edgerson ended his career during the years I didn't have much access to BYU hoops. However, the younger brother was a really good athlete for a big guy. Bart never played much for BYU but athletically I would put him in the Plaisted type of level of BYU hoops. He was a much better athlete than Eric Neilsen, Jared Jensen or fan favorite Jake "the intangible" Schoff who was a surprisingly good athlete for a bigger fella as well. I remember when Bart got some chances he made some actual highlight reel plays. One game that comes to my mind was BYU beating SDSU in the Marriott Center in 2002 I think where he had a huge block and a great putback dunk. However, my memory is that he was also a bit of a scarecrow in that "if he only had a brain." In some ways he reminded me of Frank Bartley IV in that he was a great athlete but just not a great basketball player. I recall he was on the team as a freshman and then went on a mission. He came back summer of 2000 and redshirted 2000-2001. Played sparingly in 2001-2002 on a team that had limited post depth, but had some amazing highlights in his sparingly minutes along with some depressing lowlights. He played even less in 2002-2003 after Aurajo and "Baby got Back" Schoff came on the scene and quit after the 2003 season finished.

Yeah, they were both reasonably athletic and I think Bret the older one was actually pretty buff, at least by BYU big man standards. Bad examples of tall, skinny, white stiffs, compared to the many we've had come through here.
