The only Mika highlights I see are ones of him dunking. Does he have a legit post offense, or is he getting fat off of Haws and Emery creating plays off the dribble?

He's decent. Plus he can pass out of the post. I hope he gets fat off of KC and Carlino creating plays off the dribble.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostThe only Mika highlights I see are ones of him dunking. From the ESPN Insider's recap of the Brandon Jennings Invitational:
Best Guard
Nick Emery (Highland, Utah/Lone Peak)
2013, PG, 6-2, 175
Status: Signed with BYU
Emery has everything a coach looks for in a guard: He’s tough, competes, can handle and pass, and is a deadly lefty 3-point shooter with NBA range. He also works to defend the ball. He’s simply a treat to watch compete. Emery finished with 20 points while leading Lone Peak to a 63-59 win over Wesleyan Christian Academy (N.C.). I have never seen this kid play poorly.
Best Finisher
Eric Mika (Highland, Utah/Lone Peak)
2013, C, 6-10, 225
Status: Signed with BYU
Mika finished above the rim or through contact with power and on a consistent basis. He also rebounds everything that touches his hands. He’s just a terrific young post player. Mika is either a monster or a beast -- take your pick!"Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

A name to keep in the back of your head: Alejandro Llamas. He's a senior at Salem Hills. He's a new move in from Mexico. I'm not sure if he'll qualify academically or if he's 28 years old already. I heard he's from Raul Delgado's hometown and came to Utah County in a similar way. He's averaging 22 a game. He's about 6'0 and very skinny, but lightning quick and as smooth a shooter as you will ever see. He had 27 at halftime last night. He's very undisciplined with a streetball type game, but he has some mad skills. I bet he goes to a JC and ends up a pretty sought after JC recruit.

For those of you in the UC, Lone Peak plays AF tonight at UVU. Rare chance to see them play without having to arrive early and fight for a seat."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

That was fun. The UVU gym was packed. AF started out with a 10-0 lead. Then LP turned on the jets and went on a 60-17 run and blew them out of the gym. AF players started laying on some hard fouls on breakaways once they got down by 30 points. I was afraid someone was going to get hurt.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostFor those of you in the UC, Lone Peak plays AF tonight at UVU. Mika didn't play too much due to foul trouble but he was impressive. A couple of incredible alley oops to finish breakaways. I was most impressed with Emery. Didn't shoot too well from outside but he played tremendous defense and had some very nice drives. The team passes extremely well. Fun to watch."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Good post.
We were at the game and agree with you. American Fork plays tough nosed basketball. They challenge everything. I am glad noone was hurt also.
I do declare this high school team the best Utah has ever seen. Better than my son's LP team in 2008. Better than the Orem and Provo teams of the '70s, better than Bingham with Fred Roberts, better than Viewmont of old, better than Skyline with Vranes.
The reason I say this is they are playing at such a high level, especially on defense.
The LP team of 2008 had its first 2nd round NBA pick though. Justin Hamilton is in Croatia playing this year, but he will be on the Heat roster next year. Of the 6 main players 5 went D1 and one went D2. They are all still playing.
I think Mika will go pro, with both Haws brothers and Emery having a chance. TJ is so technical and exact with his fundamentals that he has a good chance if he gets the strength and keeps on working. I know I am a LP homer, and I will keep it coming. I do love CJ Wilcox from PG/Washington too. He may be a 1st or 2nd round pick if he comes out this year, sources say.
Later.

Did Fred Roberts play for Bingham? Kenneth Roberts Bingham team was the best I'd seen until this year's LP team. I think this year's LP team is better, but that Bingham team was great and would give them a run.Originally posted by Dean View PostGood post.

Nick and TJ seem way too small for the NBA, but who knows?Originally posted by Dean View PostGood post.

Too skinny. Maybe he will beef up.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostHaws is a 6'4" junior in high school. I doubt he stays at 160 lbs the rest of his life.
Too pale for the NBA? Maybe. But size won't be his limitation."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Do you think Mika will be able to contribute as much next season as Brandon Davies did as a sophomore?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostToo skinny. Maybe he will beef up.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

I've seen you mention this a few times here and there and I'll give you my opinion...Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostDo you think Mika will be able to contribute as much next season as Brandon Davies did as a sophomore?
I think Jimmer's presence allowed Davies to be more effective that he might have otherwise been. BYU will need Mika to be solid defensively in the post, run the floor, rebound and finish around the basket next year. IOW, while Mika's numbers may not look as pretty as Davies soph numbers, I think overall he will be just as important to the success of the team.I'm like LeBron James.
