It's my tradition with my boys to watch the semifinals games at state. Fun day. My evaluations of the two BYU guys.
Baxter: crazy athletic but pretty raw, had a crazy one handed tomahawk jam on a baseline drive, from where he jumped it seemed he had no chance to dunk and all of a sudden BOOM. I will be interested to see how he does at BYU. He could be another Josh Sharp, but if he improves his offensive game, he could be an athletic Lee Cummard. I suspect he will play a 4 in Rose's system. He's quick enough to guard a wing, but will need a lot of development to play a wing offensively in Rose's system.
Childs: kind of the opposite of Baxter. Lacks explosiveness but has a really mature game. Looks like a 24 year old playing HS ball. Big, mature, strong body. As for height, unfortunately I wasn't able to do the Santos "stand next to" test, but based on how he looked relative to other players, I wouldn't have a problem listing him at 6'8 at BYU with Baxter at 6'7, knowing all those are a bit inflated, ie I expect him to be taller than 6'7 listed Zac Seljaas and no more than a couple inches shorter than 6'10 listed Mika. I think he'll be a perfect 4 in Rose's system. Strong enough to play inside and can step out and hit the three. I don't see him playing a wing in Rose's system. Too slow. But I can even see him getting some minutes at the 5 against shorter teams. He uses his body well and is pretty smooth in the post.
