  • For some reason I can't help but wish failure upon this kid. Normally I'd be pretty indifferent, except there's something I really dislike about a person leaving the dance with a different person than you came with... or something like that. His pro-mission stalwart crap and then WHOOPS JUST KIDDING thing was annoying, too. That and his mom implying Coke is against the WOW on national TV.

Quincy Lewis and the Jacksons have never been super close. In fact they had some sort of falling out and if anything Quincy hurt BYUs chances, didn't help them. But unlike you or most other fans, Dave Rose is looking long term, not at 1 kid who will be in Provo for 6 months.

Not true. Word is he's getting the players to play defense. Turning this team into decent defenders is worth more than one Jackson.

I join in your dislike of him, and he is dead to me. A Pox upon his house.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

            • I guess I missed out on some of the side stuff, because I don't understand the animosity. Plenty of the very talented LDS athletes choose better programs and I haven't seen this reaction.

              • I hope the best for FJ. His dad has been annoying through the process but I can cut the kid some slack. I will watch Duke with some interest when he plays just like I did with Jabari.

I think it is unseemly as well, but I think the difference is because he had at one time committed to BYU. My guess is on occassion you say rude things about your ex and not rude things about every hot babe who told you no. In any case I wish him well and find his story very interesting. But his daddy may be way down yonder on the Chatahootchee getting hotter than a hoochie-coochie laying rubber on the Georgia asphalt getting a lil dirty while never getting caught, but I hope he is voted out at the caucus by rabid jaded BYU fans. I am sure that will make for a great story for Darron Smith! Only then when Darron helps us to see the light will good come of this and it can be a teaching moment, a tender mercy yea even a life lesson!

In Jabari's case, his dad wasn't annoying in the least. What a classy guy. Of course as a former NBA player, he'd been through the process and knew what it was about.

BYU71 probably didn't see his dad's tweet where he agreed with a stupid yewt fan who said BYU wasn't worthy of his son. And that alone wasn't all of it. He did that only a few weeks after a Des News story where the Jacksons were quoted as saying that the BYU offer was an answer to their prayers. So you put it out there one way, to only a few weeks later agreeing with a stupid yewt on the internet that you now think BYU isn't good enough for you. Then you bring politics into into it by having the de-commitment happen just after the election. So mixed with people's passions about sports, I don't think it's that hard to understand why some might find his dad's actions to be a little annoying. That said, we're talking sports hate and not real animosity, IMO, and none of this makes them bad people. But it does explain why to fans this situation looks a little different than just another athlete picking a different school.

I thought we believed the parents sins were not visited among the children.

I will say I am very dissapointed though. There was a time I thought BYU could get all the best LDS athletes. I was as naive as Bronco when he first took over as head coach.

                        • I hope Jackson enjoys his time at Duke as much as Jabari did, including a first round exit from the Big Dance.

Of course, I hope this for Duke every year.

I'll be surprised if I watch any of his games. I don't watch much outside of BYU until tourney time.

Dave Rose fortunately has been getting almost everyone he's really wanted. He even eventually got one who at first committed to Ohio State. Bronco has been having a harder time, IMO.

I mean, I guess you can bring up Loveridge and Chapman, but I'd argue he got closer with them than he probably should. Neither was a natural fit for BYU anyway. Chapman isn't LDS. Loveridge probably just felt more comfortable at Utah, which I'm ok with. I do know after getting there he suddenly got a nice supersized tattoo on his arm. Not sure he'd feel the same creative freedom at BYU, which is fine. That said, it's rumored that BYU has the best shot at getting Yoeli Childs, who isn't LDS. IMO, we have some exciting years coming, starting with this season.

I really like Rose and think he has done a great job. Arguably BYU BB has been better than BYU FB over tha last few years.

Selfishly the only reason I would be OK with Jackson having a bad experience at Duke is so that could be pointed out to the next very talented kid considering Duke.

I think the recruiting has gotten a little better in football over the last couple of years. Just look a how many freshmen are on the two-deep as evidence of that. It just takes time for it to filter through. But I think there were several years there where the recruiting really took a hit. Even Rose had that problem during the Jimmer years, which is why we took a step back just as we joined the WCC. But then his recruiting really kicked into high gear since 2013. Because of missions we're finally going to reap the benefits.
