It's D-mar according to his coach.

Lots of talent on D-Mar's high school team.

Gaines said Harrison averaged 12.5 points and five rebounds a game last year on a team that featured six other Division I prospects and averaged 82 points per game. The coach said none of his players ever average more than 15 ppg. because the team is so talented that no single player gets a huge amount of playing time.

That's one of the things I like most about Winder and Harrison. They've played on the court with good talent, in practice with good teammates, and played on teams (Harrison for one year, at least) that played against good competition.

Harrison is a high impact player for BYU. We need to get the best LDS kids each year to really compete and Harrison is definitely that. He has length, can operate in traffic, shoots the ball well, and can play in our system. I think he is longer and more athletic than Jax with similar shooting ability. If he can develop an aggressive defensive mindset, he could be fantastic. Like I said before, he will fill an offensive role for us we are losing and brings some additional skills we are lacking.

They also lost a wing player from St George via College of Southern Idaho, but I think he totally flopped or never recovered from an injury.

Rose is a good recruiter. But I also think he has been the recipient of some really good LDS talent. When he took over the program he had Cummard and Plaisted as freshman. Further, Utah County has provided consistently produced very good and athletic hoopsters throughout Rose's tenure. Jax, Collinsworth, Haws, Davies and another Collinsworth. Further, Utah County sent some kids out of state that were pretty good as well. Additionally, many of the LDS recruits Rose brought in did not serve missions. There is also another Emery and another Haws out there as well so this Utah County as a hotbed of quality D1 recruits seems to be continuing. Not to mention that Jimmer is probably the best college player BYU has had since Ainge. He has been really fortunate. IMO, he has also done some wonders with non-LDS recruiting. Lloyd was a great pickup and he wonderfully developed Michael. He turned Keena Young into a near AA caliber player as a senior, and I think Anson Winder will be a good player for BYU if he stays there for the entire tenure. Rose hasn't yet cracked the nut of attrition, but I am not sure that nut can be cracked or at least BYU has never found a coach who has cracked that nut.

This is a great pickup and I think the kid is planning on a mission. This is kind of historic in a great way. We are now a generation from the LDS Church extending the priesthood to all worthy males, regardless of ethnicity and now BYU has landed its first ever blue chip AA baller who had not been adopted by white mormons. I think he might also be going straight on a mission as he transferred to a private prep school after his junior year and played at the prep school two years. We shall see.

I think you have really understated that. Harrison looks significantly taller/longer than Emery and partially as a result, can jump/reach much higher. Not to mention the fact that he appears to be an adequate ball handler.

Does landing Harrison give us any better shot at Jabari Parker?

Another 2012 prospect is Jordan Chatman (Jeff Chatman's son). Ranked as the 10th best PG.

If he shoots like Jax, he's a three year all MWC player.

                          edit: oops. MWC?

My vertical was about 33-34 inches. I'm 6-4, just like Harrison. He gets higher up on the square than I ever did. I'd say the 36 number is totally legitimate, although based on his dunks (especially the breakaway variety), I'd guess he jumps better off one leg, running start than he does off two feet.

That's the talent level we are talking about. Harrison is 6'4" to Jax 6'2". He has better arm length relative to height and has developed a more consistent stroke. His defense will need work and he can improve strength but he will be huge for us, IMO.

They guy essentially played an extra year of HS at a high level prep school to improve his game, correct?

He should be more ready to contribute from day 1 than about any freshman we've had.
