BYU finally wins a close one and beats Baylor by 4 in OT. Catchings had a game to remember, but yet still had to watch from the bench in OT. Very perplexing. I mean, I guess it preserved his perfect shooting night, but there was a closeup on him at the end of the game and he looked a little annoyed. Denim, I can kinda see not playing in OT because he has made some very bad shot selections late in games, but still. I thought this was a very oddly officiated games, with lots of bad calls going both ways. I know this is normal for any fanbase, especially those on the losing end, but reading the Baylor fans comments on the reddit game thread you'd think that 50 fouls were called on Baylor and just 5 on BYU. In reality it was 23 called on Baylor vs 19 on BYU and we only had 2 more FT attempts. And what's amazing is that we hit 80% of our FTs!
Obviously, Kanon Catchings got the Player of the Game award, for the second time this season. Perfect from the floor, shooting threes, mid-range jumpers, and dunking the ball, also perfect from the line. No surprise that he had the best PER, GSc, TS%, and ORtg. Keita had the best DRtg, although nobody really had that good of a defensive score, and I didn't think that any of our bigs played that well honestly.
Mawaot Mag gets the Struggled to Perform award, for the second game in a row, and third in the last five games. Time to insert Catchings back into the starting lineup? Every time he drives to the hoop it looks like he's about to slip and/or loose the ball without any pressure. He had the worst PER, GSc, TS%, and DRtg (and he's supposed to be a defensive specialist). He did hit a cricial 3 though. Keita gets the worst ORtg and sometimes I wonder why he even bothers posting up as no one ever even attempts to throw the ball to him. His dunk though!
BYU is now 14-6 (5-4) and #31 in Kenpom and was #38 in NET prior to today. Baylor is now #26 in Kenpom and was #28 in NET. This would currently be a Q1 win, but could slip to being a Q2 if they go below #30. Up next is UCF, who is 13-7 (4-5) and #59 in Kenpom and was #64. Since this is an away game, this is also a Q1 game.
