  • Oh brother. Things are suddenly out of control because BYU can do above-board what schools have been doing under the table for years. There couldn't possibly be any other reasons for him to choose BYU.

    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Love it! Who would have thought that BYU would be the one to break the pay for play model? It’s almost like the stone cut out without hands is Ryan Smith and his billions.

Now it sounds like a lot of top young players are giving BYU a look. Every BYU game is going to have tons of NBA scouts and playing on the same team with AJ will have huge benefits.

Can we say its a bit of an extension of places like Utah Prep in Hurricane? Wasatch Prep? Places to come focus on elite level basketball with school as the framework, but not the real point. The real point is getting ready for the next level.

I watched the 20 min that Stephen A. Smith had AJ and Ace on his personal show last night. One of the most interesting nuggets was that Ace said that 3 of the 4 final schools were the same as far as NIL went, but Ace and wife didn't tell AJ the amounts until after AJ made the final choice. So it seems that the reasons were what AJ said, NBA staff and high recommendation of Young from his favorite player KD. BYU just met the expected threshold for NIL.

            • The video I watched yesterday said AJ could lead college in scoring next season and that he'll probably lead the NBA in scoring at some point. Dang!! When NBA executives were asked who they would pick right now between Dybansta, Flagg, and another star in the 2026 class, the amount that chose Dybantsa was equal to those that chose both Flagg and the other guy combined. Let's go!

I wonder what level it will take for lower bowl tickets.

I agree. Lots of other things going well right now, though. Catchings is moving nicely.

Technically you are eligible for lower bowl starting at Legacy 1, but I don't think many (if any at all) Legacy 1 got them this year. My guess for next year is minimum Legacy 3 to have a shot at lower bowl.

                        • BYU beats Fresno St 95-67. It was fun seeing Dybansta there and interacting with the ROC. Seems like a great young man! I was really impressed by our improvement on defense. Our rotations were better although not perfect. But, what I loved was how we didn't over-react to open players. Against Providence (and other teams), if there was an open shooter, someone would run at them and wildly jump in their direction. I was shaking my head every time it happened. You have a very small chance of blocking or even affecting the shot when they were that wide open. Instead, you are much more likely to either foul them or run/jump way past them, taking yourself completely out of the play, and giving the other team 5v4 for going after the rebound. Against Fresno St, our defenders stayed on their feet and were much more disciplined when going after open shooters.

Trevin Knell gets the Player of the Game award, for the first time this season. Not only did he score 22 points, but he had 2 assists, 3 steals, no turnovers, AND 10 REBOUNDS. GSc agreed that he was our best player and it's no surprise that he had the highest ORtg. Now, if we can get him to shoot 4/6 3FGs more often than not during conference play, that will give us an edge. Keita had the beset TS% on a perfect shooting night and he had himself a great game as well. I really want to see more pick and play with him please! Traore had the best DRtg which is impressive considering that he's guarding the C position as a 6-6 player.

Richie Saunders gets the Struggled to Perform award, for already the third time this season. He scored an impressive 17 points on 60.7% TS%, but it was his 4 TOs and lack of any assists, steals, or blocks that did him in. If it was just this game, I wouldn't be too worried, but it's the third time. Catchings had the worst TS%. At times, I was impressed with him attacking the basket, but shooting 1/7 3FGs says that he's still relying too much on his jump shot, which just isn't there right now. Traore had the worst GSc and ORtg. I guess his low points and TOs hurt him. Hall had the worst DRtg although I really didn't notice anything that stood out to me.

BYU is now 7-2 and #46 in Kenpom and was #60 in NET coming into the game. Fresno St is now #277 in Kenpom and was #265 in NET. This was nothing but a Q4 win. Up next is Wyoming, who is 5-4 and #195 in Kenpom and #185 in NET. As a neutral site game, this is currently a Q3 game, but is close to the Q4 region if Wyoming slips and does poorly this season.

And I'm kind of pissed that the Church could easily put billions into BYU athletics but chooses not to.
