VTF: 4-Star Center Xavion Staton Commits to BYU
He's a shot blocker and a dunker. I wouldn't call him skinny, but I'd like to see him put on some muscle. He looks a bit raw to me. I don't watch the NBA so I don't pretend to know who will get drafted, but from the little I've seen so far, unless he makes huge leaps in development, I don't see him in the NBA after just one college season. Excited to have him and looks like the perfect fit for Coach Young's system. Also, this is a small point, but a lot of people are calling him a seven footer, but during his announcement, 247 Sports listed him at 6-10. Maybe it's one of those with the shoes on or off type of things. Shrugs.Xavion Staton is BYU’s highest-rated recruit in the ratings era going back 25 years, according to 247 Sports’ composite ranking. Egor Demin was given a 5-star rating by 247 Sports’ own ratings but did not get a composite rating since not every recruiting service rated him.
The 7-foot big man and Las Vegas native is rated the #23 prospect in the country according to 247 Sports and has a real chance to be named a McDonald’s All-American. Many peg Staton as the best rim protector in the class, and is offensive game is rapidly improving. One scout I talked with compared him to DeAndre Jordan with his ability to rim run, play in pick and roll, and protect the rim. Kevin Young has said multiple times he wants rim-running fives, and Xavion fits that perfectly.
