Here was your road to the Final Four: Kansas State, Xavier, Butler (in SALT LAKE). Shame on you guys.

Do you guys know who Utah had to beat in 1998? The defending national champions and no.1 seed (Arizona), no. 2 seed in the whole tournament. A week later they beat the no. 1 overall seed (the Tarheels), leading wire to wire.
Funny. Hey, I enjoyed Utah's 1998 run. I have probably mentioned that I was in Chapel Hill the night that Utah beat UNC. The look on the UNC fans' faces was priceless -- they were shocked and appalled.

My cell phone blew up with texts from my friends in Houston when Utah went up 21-0 on Alabama and eventually won the Sugar Bowl. Everybody texted things like, "Your boys are awesome." "What a beatdown!" etc. because I was from Utah. I wanted Utah to win and was excited about it.

I'm adjunct faculty at the University of Utah now. I have nothing against the Utes whatsoever. I will always want BYU to beat Utah in every sport. But I like it when Utah is a worthy opponent for BYU and when the Utes play well against everybody else.

How many returing starters did Arizona have from the championship team though? Oh, wait, that's right they returned all five starters.

You had a cell phone in '98? And you sent texts with it?

I had an old Nokia bar phone with external antennae through AirTouch Celluar and I was the only one of my friends at BYU with a cell phone.

        • These Kentucky players are pretty funny with their little chest thumping after their dunks and layups. If I'm Cornell, I take heart in knowing that eventually they will win this game...whether that is tonight, or in a year or two when Kentucky vacates it, they'll get the win.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I just think it's funny that they're showing highlights from his HS days and unintentionally reminding everyone that he hasn't brought home the trophy, even when everyone thought he would/should

            • So none of these guys from Cornell have athletic scholarships, right?

Impressive that a team of guys who are paying for their own education (with just financial aid available to any student, presumably) can make it the Sweet 16.

Although looks like Cornell will lose by at least 20 here to this Kentucky team with at least 3 lottery picks (Patterson, Wall, Cousins).

No, the texts were during the Sugar Bowl. I believe I had a cell phone in 1998 but definitely wasn't texting at that point.

                  • Seriously, this Kentucky team is just full of douchebags. Cousins staring down the Cornell bench at the half. Really Demarcus? Really?

Petterson is not a lotery pick.

I can't decide if this is just CB-style racism or if I missed something.

If he keeps it up in the tourney it is possible. I just think that he is undersized for the next level. I would be surprised if he goes that high. He is a great college player, I am just not sure if there is enough upside to him.

The coach is John Calipari. After 15 years at UMass and Memphis, he has what, 8 wins to his name?

It seems he's had 42 wins vacated out of something like 475. Particularly in the context of the "chest thumping" comment, it seems fishy to me.
