  • March Madness 2010

    The bracket is set:

    Quick observations:

-Should be some exciting teams in the SLC region. Cuse, K-State, Butler. And it's a nice set-up for BYU.

-USU sneaks in and gets a great draw. TAMU, then a short-handed Purdue or a dangerous Siena in Spokane. How did Duke get such a favorable region? Nova at 2? Baylor at 3?

Also, SDSU-Tennessee will be a great game. Both were under-seeded, IMO. If SDSU can attack Tenn, they don't have much depth.

Also, UNLV gets a nice match-up against UNI, but they won't get past Kansas.

Man you are way to positive. If BYU gets by Florida they have to beat K-State in Ok. City, essentially a home game. K-State is the kind of team that kills BYU.

USU isn't beating a Mark Turgeon coached team. Siena to the 16 might be a nice pick.

SeattleUte is probably breathing a sigh of relief that the Hoyas get to avoid the Cougars.

Do you really believe that Duke would ever get anything but a favorable region?

When Syracuse, Kansas, and Kentucky are the other #1 seeds, I don't see how Duke's comparative "elite" status earns them a favorable region.

Duke is in the preferred status of NCAA and Mike Kzyzyskwkxysy has the committee by the balls.

Of course, I can't provide proof, but I doubt it can be disproved as well.

Any SLC locals going to try to take in some games, regardless of the teams?

What do you guys think of the seeding the MWC got?

I think that UNLV and SDSU should swap seeds. BYU got a much lower seed that I expected (4 or 5), and UNM got a seed at the top end of my expectations.

Who would've thought that there would be a year that the MWC gets 4 seeds and Utah isn't one of them. This conference is getting pretty darned good.

Again, I don't know why Duke would benefit from a conspiracy compared to the other #1 seeds.

I'm going to try to get to the 3rd round. It will be a lot of fun and with no vested interest in any teams, it's much easier to watch.

I totally agree. Hopefully you can score some good tickets.

The four 1 seeds are ranked from one through four, and at the beginning of the selection show, CBS showed that Kansas was given the overall 1 seed, followed by Kentucky, then Duke, then Syracuse.

What this means is that Kansas was the first team placed, and in the geographical bracket most favorable to them (Midwest). Kentucky got the next most-favorable placement (East), then Duke (South), and the remaining 1 seed got what was left.

I wonder what some teams would say if given the option to choose a 2 seed in their geographical region, or a 1 seed on the other side of the country.

I expected a "worse-than-expected" seed for BYU. The committee knows they do not play on Sunday. If a scheduling adjustment needs to be made, then BYU will suffer the consequences. So, yeah, they COULD have received a better seed, but they are in the West Region as a consolation prize (assuming they make it out of Oklahoma).

New Mexico: best seed a MWC team has ever received. Well deserved. They played a great schedule and beat a lot of good teams.

SDSU: They did not really beat anyone out of conference. They won the conference tournament (they would be excluded otherwise). They got the seeding they deserved. However, they are matched up against a team that plays a similar style. A good seed for them, all things considered.

UNLV: They have good wins and BAD losses. However, they do have a better resume than SDSU.

All in all, four MWC teams in the Dance, but not Utah?? Sounds like the MWC is on the rise to me.
