For all intensive purposes, BYU got a 5 seed. Florida should have been the last team to get into the tourney but somehow ended up with a 10 instead of a 12. Seems like BYU should be able to exercise its NCAA tourney demons in the first round. Unfortunately, I'm thinking that K-State will grind BYU into bolivian.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Nobody can gripe about this seed because we're playing one of the worst at-large teams that made it in.

I'm not working Thursday so I can watch. BYU better win this one.

BYU wins based on free throw percentage and rebound margin. Those are my ultimate predictors in this game.

The committee may have wanted to give BYU a 6, but only Fri/Sun spots were available. So they gave them a 7 and did them a favor by boosting Florida and shipping them out west.

Another rule is they don't put conference teams in the same bracket as the conference champion. (For example, no ACC teams in Duke's bracket). Which explains why 3 Pitt is in the West while 3 New Mexico is in the East: because Big East champ West Virginia has the 2 in the East, so they had to ship Pitt out. There are little chain reaction things like this that end up adjusting several seeds.

If, by some bizarre chance, BYU can win its first two games, what are the crowds going to be like in Salt Lake? Pitt, Syracuse, Butler/Vandy are likely going to be the other teams. Syracuse can probably bring some fans, but wouldn't these game(s) essentially be at least 3/4 BYU fans?

Definitely. 3/4 is conservative, but we'll see how many yewts pick up cheap jim treeblow jerseys and show up jealous.
