What's missing from Emery's game is the drive to the basket. He just never does it, which is odd because it seems it would come naturally. He's athletic, reasonably strong, great hops. He has a terrible left hand--maybe that's part of it. I don't know. But the scouting report's out on him. Don't give him any space and he's pretty easy to shut down.

he used to do it more and he needs to get back to it. The more free throws that he shoots the sooner his shot will come back.

Anyone else see Dave Rose shake the refs hand before that final possession with 3 seconds left? He looked pissed and was being very sarcastic.

I was at the game and I agree. The last two drives down the lane by Jimmer were both fouls. UNM was bodying and hip checking him to move him out of his shot rhythm. But the Lobos played with a lot of energy and killed us with offensive boards. They also kept answering, every time BYU would make a little run. I look forward to the game in Provo. BYU should run them out of the Marriott Center. If UNM can keep winning until that game it will really help out our RPI and SOS.

Question: Midway through the second half, the ball goes into Hartsock on the block, he's bumped, whistle. Based on crowd reaction and the fact the players stayed where there they were, not headed back to UNM's basket, it seemed clear it was a foul on UNM. They show some replays and discuss something else, then when they come back to the action, UNM is taking the ball out of bounds. What happened?

I went back and looked at this last night. It happened at the 15-minute (15:01) mark in the 2nd half. As you said, Hartsock got bumped in the back. The official on the baseline came out with a closed fist (indicating a foul) and then signaled to the scorer that #1 (Hobson) had committed the foul. Meanwhile, the mtn. announcers are talking about Steve Alford's red GIACket and they show Alford with a dirty look on his face. While they are on Alford, the clock starts again for about 3 seconds and then they switch back to action on the court, where UNM is bringing the ball down the court.

ESPN's play-by-play summary confirms the foul on Hobson and subsequent possession for UNM:

15:01 41-46 Foul on Darington Hobson
14:49 41-46 Dairese Gary missed Two Point Jumper.

I am forced to downgrade the officiating grade from "HORRIBLE" to "inexcusably HORRIBLE". (I still don't think it affected the outcome of the game.)

I was curious enough to download the ksl mp3 of the game. Apparently what the TV camera and announcers missed was an in bounds pass to JT, shot, miss, and UNM rebound. Mystery solved.

I agree. I think New Mexico gets it handed to them by the Cougs. The crowd is going to be good tomorrow. SDSU was just a warm up.
