I wonder if it has anything to do with the way the referees are positioned, I know this sounds weird but on one end you have a ref under the basket and calling stuff down low, then on the other end that same ref is out on the perimeter. So he is looking for completely different things.
Horrible calls both ways. I'm proud of most of the team for battling through a tough environment. Our bigs are very poor rebounders and Abouo saved it from being much worse. I'm thinking however of sending a missing person's report to the Provo Police Department for Jackson Emery. He's a 6'3'' junior shooting guard of average build, white, curly light brown hair. He apparently was not on either of the flights to San Diego or Albacrackie and no one has seen his 3 pt shot in weeks. He's 10 of his last 47 from behind the arc.

    • The point is BYU is no longer a story. Say adios to ESPN's attention. You might still win the MWC; big deal. This team's next chance to really be somebody is the NCAA tournament. Let's see how it does.

This is what I love about college basketball and one of the things that makes it superior to college football. There are no bullshit national titles; no popularity contest national titles; no magazine titles. No team wins the NC beating only one really good team or even none. It's for real. You have to show how good you are, where it counts.

No one should fault BYU for losing at New Mexico, 76-72. The Pit is and will be one of the toughest places in the country to play, and I can tell you from years covering the Lobos that there is no opponent that gets the place as amped as the Cougars. BYU remains the MWC favorite even with the loss to the Lobos. But UNM desperately needed the win to stay in the race.

            Tavernari
            Abouo
            Hartsock

That gives us good rebounders, and enough scoring punch.
I've said this before, and it's a little outside the box, so it may be a crazy idea, but I'd like to see how Abouo does playing some minutes at the 4.

I tihnk there was a parade after Utah beat the no. 2 and no. 1 ranked teams in the nation in successive weeks and then came close to winning the title. If not, it was an injustice.

              • The sad thing is nobody will care about BYU beating a below .500 team at home come Saturday.

What's missing from Emery's game is the drive to the basket. He just never does it, which is odd because it seems it would come naturally. He's athletic, reasonably strong, great hops. He has a terrible left hand--maybe that's part of it. I don't know. But the scouting report's out on him. Don't give him any space and he's pretty easy to shut down.

No, we had a parade in 1998, as well.

Defensively, his on-ball defense has been pretty poor this year. Last night it was really exposed. A couple times the UNM player drove by him like he was standing in cement.
