Like I said a split was what I wnated and we are still in the drivers seat in the conference race with a 1 game lead and 2 of our toughest 3 road games out of the way.
Come on I'm on board with with BYU being the best team and I've been very complimentary, but the Pit is the toughest place to play in the conference and it isn't close.

Exactly. I just hate knowing how bad we played and still having a chance to win. The only intelligent thing that the commentator said tonight was #23 NM beating #10 BYU in the Pit is not an upset. That's basketball.

The game totals for each team are nearly identical except for the FTs which got skewed a bit in the last minute.

Lately, BYU, UNM, and SDSU have all enjoyed a legit home court advantage. I don't know off the top of my head, but hasnt BYU suffered the fewest defeats at home over the past 3 or 4 years?

Poor Greg Wrubbell. He is talking and talking about the foul differential. The refs called it loose and that favored the more active hussling team. Can't blame the refs.

That's probably true generally, but for BYU the T&M has been tougher recently. Maybe that's what he meant.

New Mexico is 18-3 at the Pit with Alford as the head coach in conference.
BYU is 80-3 at home under Dave Rose overall.

Just got finished watching, I can't believe how sloppy we played. Way to many TOs to win at a place like the New Mexico Pit. Jimmer and Tav seemed to just be throwing it up at times, yet we were still in the game at the end. Gotta bounce back Saturday.

Did anyone listen to KSL? Watching the post game handshakes as Alford was shaking hands with BYU players Wrubell appeared to have his head in his hands bawling, is that an accurate description?

When I saw the box score this morning my first thought was "if I go to the CUF thread there is guaranteed to be a discussion of how the refs jobbed BYU in some fashion." I was not disappointed. It is as predictable as the sunrise.

That's what you got from this thread? Reading comprehension is a lost art.
                    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

No I just scanned for one thing in particular and found it immediately. Didn't read the rest.

That's actually a great way to approach life. You will never be dissapointed.

Quick thoughts on the game last night:

BYU got dominated on the glass again. That was probably the biggest factor in the loss. Once again, things improved when Abouo was in the game. It’s too bad we can’t get more guys committed to getting those rebounds like Abouo does. When the ball goes up, Charles gets in position, boxes out, then goes up like there’s no way anyone else is going to touch that ball. Haws goes after a lot of boards and does well for a 2, but he doesn’t have the size and strength to battle it out down low.

When did BYU turn into the Jazz? I don’t remember the last time I saw so many high ball screens turn into uncontested layups. I guess that’s partly a result of having Hartsock and Tav as your “bigs” for half the game.

Miles, HOLD ON TO THE FREAKING BALL! (See note above about Abouo.)

The officiating was horrible—HORRIBLE, I say! I hate to complain about it because it seems like a copout, but it didn’t lose the game for BYU and there were some really bad calls both ways. BYU had plenty of chances to win the game and didn’t do it. The refs screwed up on block/charge and moving screens the whole night, among other things. Again, it didn’t decide the game, but it was noteworthy IMO.

BYU mismanaged the clock in the final 2 minutes or so. Obviously, we don’t need Emery shooting from 30 feet when they’re down 4 points with 20 seconds left, especially with how badly UNM shot free throws in general. It was obvious that BYU hasn’t been in that situation for a long time (they haven’t had to come from behind in the final 2 minutes) and wasn’t sure how to handle it. Hopefully they will learn from this one as there will surely be similar situations in the coming weeks.

It wasn’t all bad, of course. I liked the way BYU battled in a tough environment. They had an off night and didn’t play particularly well, but they still had a chance in the last minute to beat a very good team in a very tough environment.

Give UNM a lot of credit. I haven’t watched them this year, but it’s no surprise that they’ve beat some very good teams this year. Martinez moves really well without the ball, they have a lot of size and athleticism down low, and Gary is a nice point guard.

I’m not down on the Cougs, but frustrated that they could have won that thing had they played just a little closer to their normal level.

Did you mean CB? I can't find a statement, much less a discussion, that BYU got jobbed by the refs.

I mentioned the officiating. But I also think I mentioned that the FT disparity was skewed because of the last 2 minutes of the game. It didn't cost BYU the game. The officiating though was poor. Well, at least inconsistent. Those back to back to back charge and moving screen calls were dumb. Guys were driving the lane and getting knocked to the ground and no call. But then they'd call a weak touch foul outside or weak over the back.

BYU lost this game because they got nothing in the middle at either end. Davies played much like he did at SDSU. He needs to find a way to stay on the floor and out of foul trouble. Miles was typical Miles. I just don't understand how someone can not improve since stepping foot on campus. I wonder how much coaching should shoulder the blame. His only move is his weak ass fall away when he goes across the middle. With his body he should be taking it to guys. DDD is right, the guy is vanilla Kwame Brown.

Jackson also needs to get out of this shooting slump. The NCMO suggestion was great. Someone get him to a UVSC dance.
