Great win, but I must say I'm already wavering in my faith regarding the UNM game next week. They have a few days to rest, but it seems that a win like this takes something out of players.
I'll be 100% on the wagon if they can pull it off though.
We should be top 10 on Monday. When's the last time that happened?
Well I'll be there to give them all the moral encouragement I can. The Lobos will be in full howling mode, but I think BYU matches up much better against the Lobos than SDSU. UNM is very similar to UNLV. We need to worry about their perimeter shooting because when they get hot, the Pit gets rolling. Here's hoping Jimmer, Tyler, Jackson are feeling it. I think our inside guys can handle UNM's guys, but Darrington Hobson can be a force. I'm looking forward to this game.

Edit: Actually, I'd be surprised if we make top 10, considering that while #9 lost, they also beat #1, and while #11 lost, they lost to the team right behind us. We should move up another spot or two and should be top 10 for sure if we can get through next week.
I agree that a loss at the Pit is highly possible and perhaps probable. I don't think BYU is a top 10 team, definite top 20 and when Tavernari plays well it is a top 15 club. A loss at UNM wouldn't be the end of the world. In fact I would rather lose at UNM than @ UNLV. I really want to beat UNLV in Vegas. I don't think BYU is good enough to win both, but I could be wrong.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Big win for the Cougars-demonstrating a little testicular fortitude. My favorite play was Chris Miles spinning blatant travel one hander that put us ahead 67-62. Sometimes the calls even out.
That was a fun game. The place was announced as a sellout and it seemed to be.
As is the case whenever BYU plays in SoCal or Vegas, there was a really nice contingent of fans.
SDSU had this student section area of kids dressed as missionaries with bike helmets. I thought it was pretty funny.
Jimmer has made a name for himself in the MWC. SDSU fans openly lamenting not having "someone like him" on their team.
Thank goodness the zone worked tonight because SDSU seemed much more athletic than BYU.....unfortunately for them, they couldn't shoot to save their lives.
My intent has not been to put down Jimmer. Just to demonstrate how ludicrous it is to judge a kid as unfit for DI who is, as a true freshman, playing on Henderson's level. Someone could just as easily have said the same thing about Jimmer absent clairvoyance.
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
Well this is troublesome. It looks like we might pull this one out, but even so, we've got exactly 2 guys doing anything. That's not normal for this team and I hate to see us change up what works in a big game.
Arch, is that you?

One of my favorite moments was late in the second half when Jimmer somehow got wide open for a 3 pointer. The crowd seemed to let out a collective groan before he even shot the ball. Of course he then missed that shot.
I'm not the most sophisticated basketball watcher, but it seemed to me that our defense improved trmendously when Abouo came in. Was that coincidence, or due to Abuou's play, or due to things we were able to do differently with the changed personnel?
He was the only one on the court with fresh legs. Even so, I don't understand why Abuouo doesn't get some -- if not most -- of JT's minutes. He's not a great ball handler and doesn't have a great outside shot, but neither does JT. Hopefully Charles showed coach Rose that he can excel in big games in crunch time and steal some of JT's minutes.

Games like that are what make college basketball great to watch, not just because the team I cheer for won. It was intense, the crowd was into it, great runs by both teams where it felt like they might take the game over, came down to the last possession.
That was a game BYU would have lost in pretty much each of the last 10+ years when SDSU went on the run and got a decent lead. Jimmer is unreal, just fun to watch. This team better win a game in March.

Yeah, that was a fun game.
My wife and I had date night last night (saw Up In The Air -- overhyped, I give it 3 stars) , so I sequestered myself from hearing about the game and watched it on DVR after we got home.
My wife has the quirkiest sports knowledge -- she often won't know really basic rules of the games, but will then pull out the most random and obscure bits of sports trivia or information about players at the most unexpected times.
When I came to bed, she was half-asleep and asked me if BYU won. I said, "Yeah, they won by two." In her semi-comatose state, she says, "Good, they covered the spread." Sure enough, BYU was a 1.5 favorite -- I have no idea why or how she knew that. I'm pretty sure she's not placing bets.

Awesome story. You better check the bank account online real quick, maybe she has a sportsbook account.

Bingo.
This team has had some serious gut checks this year. With one exception, they have figured out how to put aside distractions and in pretty much every instance (some props here to Tav), Jimmer has stepped up and taken over in ways that Cummard just never seemed to be willing to do. In fairness to Lee, he didn't bring the ball up like Jimmer does, so it is easier for Jimmer to "demand" the ball...he already has it in his hand....but I think it is pretty clear that if we win and lose by Jimmer this season, it won't be for a lack of self-confidence in his game.
Also, while you don't like to see the team play in such a disjointed manner, the fact is that teams hit walls every now and then and they have off nights. It is nice to see them figure out a way to win when having an off night.
Each win is so critical because it keeps us out of that horrible 7-9 seed range in the first round. It would be nice to go into the first round with a Top 5 seed in the regional bracket.
