  • Illinois State?

I did not see any of the Utah game but I just saw on the ticker they lost at home to Illinois state. This team is really hard to figure out.

true this team is so up and down its not even funny. That being said Watkins was out and Foster got hurt early (sprained ankle). I dont see better than 4th place in the mwc for this team.

And now, thanks to that loss, the MWC is losing the inagural MWC-MVC challenge. Thanks Utes!

This team is pretty easy to figure out this season: they stink this year.

But thanks to the Utes, the MWC is 2-0 against the Big Ten this season (unless there have been other matchups between the conferences of which I am unaware).

Utah is also 0-2 in the big 12.

In fairness to Illinois State, they have won 24 and 25 games the last two years.

I promise I'm not just taking a shot here, but taking a look at the utes wins and losses this year, I can't help but wonder if this is a coaching issue. They appear to be talented enough or they get up enough to play well and beat some good teams (Michigan and Illinois), only to lose to the likes of Idaho, Seattle and Illinois St at home.

Isn't it generally a coaching problem when a team underachieves against lesser opponents?

The Utes were also very shorthanded. Jay Watkins injury DNP, and David Foster went out at the very beginning of the 2nd half with an ankle sprain. You could see a huge difference once Foster went out. Illinois State's shooting percentage jumped from 44% to 50% in the second half.

Their two best players were injured. Also, all their best players except Brown are newcomers. With the quality of his recruits and winnng the conference and getting a no. 5 seed last year I'm satisfied Boylen is good enough.

What will probably happen is these newcomers will mature, he'll win 25+ games and have some success in the NCAA's, then he'll bolt to the Big Ten.

I'm not trying to be a troll, but what are you referring to? Utah was a 5 seed in what last year?

Edit....sorry, SU. My brain isn't working well yet this morning.

You talk about last year like it was a huge success. It's interesting that only 10 years removed from real success, you guys are taking solace in a tourney seed not a tourney win. You tied for the MWC championship, walked through a MWC tourney where the giants were already slayed for you, and got waxed by a 12 seed in the first round. This is the pinnacle of Ute basketball for a five year time period.

SU, would you mind ranking the Utah players for me? Foster, Watkins at the top. Then who?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

At the beginning of the year I think Brown was number 1, then Henderson, now its Foster and Watkins. This team is obviously loaded which makes no sense that they are now 5-6.
