to be clear, trump is a vehicle for bannon-ism (which is not going away any time soon). it will only become more prevalent and powerful as their ability to manipulate uneducated boomers on facebook becomes more sophisticated. trump exists as a social phenomenon because of cambridge analytica and social media.

Bannon, yesterday, said we should place the heads of Wray/Fauci on pikes outside the WH as examples to people to get with the program.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postto be clear, trump is a vehicle for bannon-ism (which is not going away any time soon). it will only become more prevalent and powerful as their ability to manipulate uneducated boomers on facebook becomes more sophisticated. trump exists as a social phenomenon because of cambridge analytica and social media.
These were the people Trump surrounded himself with and who molded his run and presidency.
CB full of Mormons who support Trump, it’s insanity.

He's done. But his influence isn't. Right now the most visible GOP candidates for 2024 are Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz, but solid populists. They haven't muttered a single word against Trump, because they know those voters will need to be feted in 2024. Lindsey Graham is still playing cute with the fringe. I would love for there to be a reckoning that would right the ship for the GOP. But that's not happening for a while. Lol, I am really enjoying all the prognostications and autopsy reports on here and social media. None of us know what we're talking about and won't know until 2022 at least. But even I enjoy the intellectual masturbation of it all.
When you guys speak of Trumpism, what do you mean? I think everyone will agree that Trump is toxic, his personality traits are toxic, and his interpersonal relationships are toxic and destabilizing. Is that what Trumpism is? Because that won't survive outside of Trump himself. You think Josh Hawley is going to pull of being an asshole? McConnell certainly won't. All these toadies that emulated Trump just look impotent (looking at you Cruz). That is a phenomena that only Trump can make work.
So is Trumpism a policy? What specifically? I guess his awful immigration policy. Anti trade policy? We need to define what Trumpism even is if we are going to make predictions. Bannonism isn't going to work with stuffy white senators from middle America.

Trumpism is populism and demagoguery, plain and simple. It is a big eff-you to anyone who you consider your enemy. It is supporting anyone who will fight your battles, no matter how plainly hypocritical they are. It has no political boundaries, and it certainly isn't traditional conservatism.Originally posted by USUC View PostLol, I am really enjoying all the prognostications and autopsy reports on here and social media. No one can out Trump Trump. But you certainly see Hawley, Cruz, and others trying to carry the torch. Hawley wants nothing else but to fight culture wars. And I'll give Cruz some benefit of the doubt. I think he really has conservative principles. But he found out that his national political fortunes reside in populism. So he also fights the culture wars, albeit somewhat reluctantly I think. He's still pathetic though."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Ted Cruz was a thing long before Trump came along. Lindsay Graham changes his tone completely depending on which way the wind is blowing. Remember him ripping on Trump four years ago? Chris Christie is already starting to distance himself from the stench of trump. Ditto for several others.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostHe's done. But his influence isn't. Let's revisit this 'what will the GOP be like post-Trump' in 2022. I don't see national leaders who are immune to Trump's populism and his influence rising up. Where are his voters going to go? He's going to end up winning the second most votes in US history. He moves people. The obvious implication is that despite all his immorality, he pushes the right buttons for the right. He's done it twice in national elections now.
Future GOP candidates won't be dumb. They're watching. I'm not saying someone sane won't be running. But I'm betting that there will be a field of populists drowning out true conservatives."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Not sure where Ronna (Romney) McDaniel will be in 2021, but the Chairperson of the GOP is pretty Trumpy!
Yeah, it's the democrats that are undermining the nation's trust in the voting system."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Maybe only he can pull it off.
The GOP has shown it isn’t a strong enough institution to stop this type of takeover. Look what he did to the GOP:
Free trade? Gone
Fiscal responsibility? Gone
Limited government? Gone
Moral clarity? Gone
American exceptionalism? Gone
Institutional norms? Gone
All for a narcissistic criminal who probably raped multiple women and young girls.

i'm glad you're enjoying it. trumpism is a rejection of any coherent ideology and the written and unwritten boundaries and norms that have historically been required to facilitate the function of government. it's a rejection of any commitment to truth, intellectual rigor, patience, tradition, and any other value that isn't abject short term selfishness or worse. it's about sticking it to the libs at all costs. it's a patent embrace of hypocrisy--of decrying the evils of socialism while giving $25b in subsidies to farmers for commodities that could be purchased cheaper globally, of staking your reputation on your support for troops while insulting gold star families and former prisoners of war, of obsessing over the bill of rights but attacking the speech rights of private enterprises and citizens and permitting new infringements of the second amendment.Originally posted by USUC View PostLol, I am really enjoying all the prognostications and autopsy reports on here and social media. you don't have to be an ignorant, undisciplined, arrogant, entitled, loudmouthed piece of shit like trump to embrace the above. in fact, the quiet and calculating adherents to the above are much more threatening.
i guess the best response is: can you give me a coherent policy statement of the republican party over the last decade? trump conservatism is some kind of bizarro mirror image.Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

This is obviously a double edged sword. He will be by far the most voted against candidate in history too. He doesn't just move people to his side, he moves people to the other side. Look at how well the GOP did down ballot from him. People weren't voting for Biden, they were voting against Trump for the most part.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostHe's going to end up winning the second most votes in US history.
