This is concerning, as we're boarding a plane tomorrow to celebrate Christmas in Denver. But my wife and I have had the Moderna hat trick and we try to normalize our activities as much as possible while remaining mask-compliant.

I flew yesterday. There was a family in the row behind me on the other side of the plane and their young child coughed through most of the flight. He was wearing a mask but it was very loose and they also spent an hour “eating” which resulted in none of them wearing masks…apparently because Covid doesn’t isn’t transmissbale while eating. I mean, if we are serious about protecting people why are we offering drinks or allowing people to eat on a 2.5 hour flight.

anyway, I hope you don’t get sick and have a wonderful Xmas.

Yeah, I've already decided that if there's a Rose Bowl, I'm not going to eat on the plane, even if the CDS says it can't be transmitted while eating.

Beat me to it. This is great news. Death curve remains flat in South Africa, UK, and US (and most other places omicron is known to be causing case spikes). It has actually dipped a bit in the UK since the omicron wave began. Ongoing deaths are probably overwhelmingly delta infections of the unvaxxed.

Nobody knows this. If it's much more contagious but less severe it could still mean more deaths. The perceived milder symptoms could be because of widespread immunity, which means those lacking immunity are vulnerable. Specialists aren't drawing any firm conclusions at this point. Boosters have shown that they stop omicron, but the FDA discouraged boosters and now we're way behind.

Which is why the NHL just canceled all games through Saturday.

Yes, think virulence studies fascinating but I am sure immunity big part of it so agree very much with strong encouragement of vaccination (increased immunity or increased immunity plus lower virulence), still sorting out, @MikeHaddadMD

My biggest problem with the current euphoria is that the only people expressing it is the same twitter ship of fools who have been wrong at every turn.

If you want to follow someone who's truly an expert and grounded in the scientific method and realism but doesn't swallow the government's knee jerk pessimism all the time, it's Monica Gandhi. She also opposes closing schools.
