Outside of Utah County, most of America is like Seattle. I was in Northern California three weeks ago. Of course, just like Seattle. Seeing America through the prism of Utah County is a distortion, and we've seen that the economy can run at about 92 percent with masks.

Well this last week I did some travel for work for the first time in 6 months. Unfortunately it was in South Dakota and Texas. Mask usage outside of the airport was about 50% in SD and Texas was about 75% On the flight from Dallas to LA the poor flight attendants had to diffuse a verbal altercations with 3 separate men who refused to wear a face covering. I am guessing they were from Texas because one had a bandana with the Texas flag on it one had a cowboy hats in his lap and the other was wearing cowboy boots. Assholes all of them.

More people are idiots than you might think. Just wear the mask when around others. Oh btw American Airlines was packing people in like sardines. The airport in Dallas was as busy as usual.

I flew this week and it was pretty much 100% mask compliance. Delta doesn’t mess around.

I’ve flown a few times the past few months and I love it. No unnecessary and overly complicated drink service. Plenty of seat room. Much better boarding procedures. I hope some of these changes stay.

Yeah people were wearing masks in the airport and on the plane because it was required but some people want to die on the mask hill for some reason. Pun intended.

American threatens the non compliance folks with a lifetime ban from the airline. They eventually complied but made a scene, and it was only on my leg from Dallas to LA.

All of the people that were refusing to put the mask on had a mask, they just wanted to be an asshole.

I flew for the first time on 6 months last week and am flying again next week. Othet than having a seat buffer, I hate most of the changes. If I can't have a diet coke, a first class upgrade is meaningless.

Seems to me that sitting on a plane is the least imposition there is for wearing a mask. You're not sprinting, or doing something strenuous, you're going to doze off at any moment, if you sleep with your mouth open no one will know, and wearing a mask discourages people from idle chit chatting with you. Win-win-win.

If only The Trump administration had access to experts who could expose them to sound epidemiological principles. You know, someone who could explain terms like incubation period and issues with sensitivity/specificity of tests. Certainly if that person were there, the administration wouldn't have solely relied solely on testing to decrease their risk of exposure and transmission. I'm sure they would have learned that mask wearing, social distancing, and self-quarantining would have helped limit the spread of the virus throughout the highest levels of government.

If only the leader of the United States and his administration had access to this information.

Attended an excellent class this evening taught by Phil Pizzo, former Dean of the Stanford Medical School, a Professor of Immunology and Infectious Diseases, and one of the co-authors of the letter written by Stanford medical experts challenging Trump’s COVID adviser, Scott Atlas.

Pizzo was very Fauci-like (unsurprising since they’ve worked together for 45 years) in his presentation and demeanor, and packed in loads of information about viruses generally, how this one differs from others, and what he expects the future holds (he’s cautiously optimistic we’ll be back to normal by mid-2021). It was also nice that he essentially confirmed everything that JIC has been telling us the past few months (not that I ever doubted).

He’s very concerned about the speed with which Russia and China are getting vaccines out. He mentioned that the premature release of a polio vaccine in the ‘50s, and of a swine flu vaccine in the ‘70s, resulted in a lot of terrible side effects and even death in a few instances. He fears that a similar occurrence with a premature release of a COVID vaccine will provide baseless support for the anti-Vaxxers.

I was surprised to learn from the debate last night that the H1N1 "swine flu" infected more than 60 million people in the US in the first year. If the swine flu had been as bad as Covid-19 we would have lost over two million folks on Obama's watch.
