She's obviously racially insensitive, but I don't think she's advocating for white nationalism or white identified terrorism. She's an opponent of immigration and promoter of French nationalism. I think that's a respectable position for someone to hold, regardless of whether I agree with it.
I think you are being very generous to Le Pen. I'm oddly interested in fringe politics. Le Pen and others try to pretty up and soft sell their racism and fascistic tendencies. It's frankly far right strategy

Le Pen's father was more overt in his racism and xenophobia. Europe has always had a more formal presence of socialist and fascistic parties.

It's DNA is rooted in Philippe Pétain and Nazi collaborators.

The whole great replacement theory is anti Semitic and racist at its core. Keeping France French means keeping France white and "Christian."

Le Pen is a woman, isn’t… they?

Am I thinking of someone else?

I edited it. I meant her father was more overt.

France had some serious issues with Muslims/northern Africans back in the late 90s when I was there. It didn’t help that the French tried to colonize parts of Africa that are now very Muslim and those countries are falling apart so their residents look to emigrate to France since they speak the language. It’s more than just trying to keep France French, there are serious social and cultural issues that the French are facing with the high levels of immigration they’ve had.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I don't disagree, these kind of movements often orbit around a mixture of both serious and genuine concerns and embellished nativist issues that are unaddressed.

Yeah, my assertion about the National Front isn't remotely controversial.

If you remember watching American History X and haven't seen it in awhile and watch it now, a lot the rhetoric Ed Norton's character used is commonplace now, if just slightly less indelicate. It's unsettling.

                  • This some interesting long form journalism from a guy who infiltrated far right militant militias and operated out of Utah. Well worth the read.

                    https://www.propublica.org/article/a...s-militia-mole

I’d first heard from Williams five months earlier, when he sent me an intriguing but mysterious anonymous email. “I have been attempting to contact national media and civil rights groups for over a year and been ignored,” it read. “I’m tired of yelling into the void.” He sent it to an array of reporters. I was the only one to respond. I’ve burned a lot of time sating my curiosity about emails like that. I expected my interest to die after a quick call. Instead, I came to occupy a dizzying position as the only person to know the secret Williams had been harboring for almost two years.

We spoke a handful of times over encrypted calls before he fled. He’d been galvanized by the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the Capitol, Williams told me, when militias like the Oath Keepers conspired to violently overturn the 2020 presidential election. He believed democracy was under siege from groups the FBI has said pose a major domestic terrorism threat. So he infiltrated the militia movement on spec, as a freelance vigilante. He did not tell the police or the FBI. A loner, he did not tell his family or friends.

Williams seemed consumed with how to ensure this wasn’t all a self-destructive, highly dangerous waste of time. He distrusted law enforcement and didn’t want to be an informant, he said. He told me he hoped to damage the movement by someday going public with what he’d learned.

                      • Not surprising and and super disgusting. Sad that it confirms what many already knew about the far right. Young people are easily swayed by those they aspire to be. Its one of many reasons why voting for the these right wing nutjobs who lead the republican party because of their "policies" is very dangerous.

The truth is you have white supremacist/characters welcomed into MAGA. Under the pretence of pushing back against political correctness, you can be as offensive as you want.

Jack Posebiec is one that sticks out like a sore thumb. He was one of the organizers of the Unite the Right rally.

Trump had dinner with Nick Fuentes ffs.

Trolling is a part of it, but there is a concerning presence of genuine racists in the GOP. That has accompanied the rise of MAGA. Trolling also serves as convenient cover to say offensive shit.

Anti-semetic, racist 4chan trolls are still bigots, even if they are doing it for the lolz.
