  • I have already sworn an oath to my family that I will never vote for a republican again. But here comes Mitt with an inspiring call:

He has proven his national worth. If he runs again, I might consider backing down from my oath!
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Sadly, Mitt will never get the credit he deserves, and he will never be popular enough to carry the presidential vote. People who should have every reason to support him over their other options, always seem to find a reason not to.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

      • Now there's a man who knows how to lead. He sounds and acts infinitely more like Captain Moroni than Trump ever could.

I freely admit that I admire Romney much more than I used to when he was governor in Mass. He is an honorable man, so much so that I would consider voting for him if his opponent was clearly incompetent or immoral. But since I lean left even more than I did in 2012, it still would take a lot for me to vote for him. That doesn’t negate how much my admiration for him has grown this last year.

          • Yikes. This speech he’s giving is powerful. He just got prolonged applause.

Almost thou persuadest me to be a Republican Mitt!

I respect that. My counter (as someone who has voted Democratic much more than Republican) is that the last four years has made me think that I would much rather have a man of integrity with whom I agree 40% of the time, than I would a Trump-like candidate with whom I agree 70% of the time. Mitt's time is past, but I would vote for him in a second.

I respect that as well. Romney is better than most politicians we have right now. I want him to be in the national spotlight for as long as possible. He represents something in our country we should all support, irrespective of our differences in political opinion.

I agree. Especially when the differences are stark. Romney is a good man. Spencer Cox is a good man. Biden is a good man. Bernie Sanders (socialist or not) is a good man. I think George HW. Bush was a good man etc. None of them perfect but decent. Trump is an awful person. He surrounded himself with awful people and required individuals to compromise their integrity. Ted Cruz is a bad person. Mike Pence has no spine.

Decent people can have different perspectives on how to govern what the most important priorities are. Anyone on this board would have been an amazing improved over what we suffered through.

A new Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll found 64% of Republicans in the state disapprove of his job performance, including half who strongly disapprove.

While the first-term senator’s overall 50% approval rating among Utah voters is only slightly lower than where it has been the past year, his 46% disapproval in the latest survey is higher than ever.

A segment of the Utah population has always taken issue with Romney’s position on Trump. Just this month Trump supporters accosted him at the Salt Lake airport and then chanted “traitor” on a flight to Washington.

Romney was often on the same page as the former president regarding policy, but he didn’t shy away from calling Trump out, especially when it came to matters of character.

“His comments about President Trump escalated over the past several months, particularly the last couple of weeks,” noted Jason Perry, director the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics.A new Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll found 64% of Republicans in the state disapprove of his job performance, including half who strongly disapprove.

And don't kid yourself, the Utah GOP is not much different than AZ.

                            • The better of 2 Utah senators, not the one who is supposed to be a constitutional expert:

“Five people died with the attack on the Capitol. Five human beings died. There’s no question but that the president incited the insurrection that occurred,” he said Tuesday. “How culpable is he? That’s something we will evaluate.”

Romney, the only Republican who voted to convict Trump in the Senate trial last year, said to simply move on without holding the former president accountable would be inconsistent with the history of justice in the United States.

“I believe that it’s an element of unity, which I look forward to having resolved so that we can move on,” he said.

Romney took issue with Republicans who say a Senate trial would further inflame passions in an already divided country.

“I say, first of all, have you gone out publicly and said that there was not widespread voter fraud and that Joe Biden is the legitimate president of the United States? If you said that, then I’m happy to listen to you talk about other things that might inflame anger and divisiveness,” he said.

“But if you haven’t said that, that’s really what’s at the source of the anger right now.”

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
