Impeaching Trump: Make America Sane Again

I don't mind a little cognitive dissonance, but how can Trump's defenders, including Pence today, go after Biden's son for his dealings with Ukraine and China, while ignoring the Trump boys and Ivanka who are engaging in transactions with foreign governments and businesses on a scale far greater than those of Hunter's? I get that what Hunter was able to snag looks sleazy and Joe should have reined in his son while Joe was in office. I have no argument with that. But why do the Trump kids get a pass here, especially when their dad receives a direct benefit (as owner of most of their businesses) from their activities?

Trump's brazen call this morning for China to investigate Hunter--this on the eve of trade talks with China--is astonishing to me, or would be if any president other than his Drumpfness were doing it.

Joe should just answer the questions. Right now it looks like he has a lot to hide (which it seems he does). But Joe sez he will have a new ethics policy his first day in the White House. So it is all good.

As for the Drumpf kids, if they are a bunch of crackhead dumbasses that sit on foreign companies' boards and raking in millions because of it then they should be investigated too. Are they leaving their crackpipes in their rental cars too?

Ted, I can never tell when you're making a serious point or just screwing around (and I acknowledge you delight in the latter). Are you suggesting that because the Trump kids aren't on the boards of foreign corporations (and I have no idea if they are), they aren't benefiting mightily from their many business dealings with foreign governments and businesses because of their dad? I also appreciate your obsessive moral indignation over a candidate's son's considerable personal failings, all in the service of a man whose personal and moral shortcomings are legion.

I’m not a Trump defender, but your post begs a few questions. The problem isn’t with children of politicians doing business in foreign countries. Nor, by the way, is the problem per se Trump asking foreign countries to investigate his political enemies—see, e.g., the Steele dossier.

Biden’s problem is that he demanded Ukraine to fire a prosecutor who was investigating his son Hunter, a sleazy fellow, for possible criminal activities. And as lawyers, we know that a conflict of interest is radioactive regardless of intent. He shouldn’t have been in the middle of that. I tend to agree with Bill Maher that Joe Biden should withdraw because of this, particularly to lend credibility to the effort to impeach Trump.

Trump’s problem is that he may have used taxpayer money as quid pro quo to induce Ukraine to investigate Hunter Biden.

Once again, there is no current evidence that this is true. There was no active investigation into Biden's son at the time.

This says nothing of the ethics or sleaziness of what Biden or his son did. It's just that the talking point that he went after a prosecutor who was investigating his son is not true.
