Agree, it was a worthwhile read. This quote resonated with me, "Universities will no longer be dedicated to the creation and dissemination of knowledge but to the promotion of student comfort and the avoidance of social-media attacks."

    • Maybe there is a better thread for this, but...

People are getting all outraged about how coconut milk is produced with monkey labor. To the point that Associated Foods (a big western grocery distributor) is no longer selling certain brands of coconut milk:

      https://www.abc4.com/news/local-stor...-monkey-labor/

I believe monkeys are mostly used to climb the trees and get the coconuts down, but whether they're used for just picking or in some other part of the coconut milk process, I don't really get what the big deal is. Humans have domesticated animals, "enslaved" animals if you want to use evocative outrage language, for tens of thousands of years:

      Horses - labor, hide
      Donkeys - labor, hide
      Mules - labor, hide
      Cows - milk, food, hide
Water buffalo - labor, milk, food, hide
      Yaks - food, milk, hide
      Chickens - food, feathers
      Goats - food, milk, hide
      Pigs - food, hide
      Ducks - food, feathers
      Geese - food, feathers
Cats - These useless animals are pretty much just pets
      Dogs - labor, food
      Camels - labor, hide
      Sheep - food, hide
Rats/Mice/guinea pigs - experiments, and if you're desperate, food
Fish, wild and farmed - food

I'm sure there are several species I'm missing. So why do people get upset over "forced monkey labor"? Isn't pretty much any kind of domesticated animal forced labor?

Associated Foods is stupid for knuckling under. By the same logic they should stop selling all dairy, seafood, and meat products, any leather good. Why do they care about coconut milk?

      • Love coconut milk. Thank you monkeys!

Coconut water on the other hand is freaking gross.

DeSantis engaging in all sorts of nonsense to make a national name for himself. He is a clown, but probably better than Trump (who wouldn't be?).

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

A&W is underrated as a fast food place. Shame there aren't more of them.

This post prompted me to go look up locations. Turns out there's one not too far from the local temple. Plans for date night are officially made.
