Trevor Lee didn't like it either.

      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

If you believe the way forward for democrats is to moderate and try to win back the middle, then this election is a disaster and a gift to republicans.

If you believe the path forward for democrats is to lean far more left and embrace socialism, time to celebrate I guess.

        • Zoron's win is a disaster for classical Democrats. Revell in his victory for now but the way he governs could easily push more people to the right.

You mean NYC election? I think the Virginia and NJ wins are more important and relevant and were won by moderate Dems. Those are big warning signs to the GOP for next year, as independents all went to the Dem candidates

I guess complaining about an immigrant getting uppity in an immigrant city is one take.

I agree. Mamdani is taking up all the air time, but the other two races were probably a more important blue print for Democrats. The DSA wing ia trying its hardest to take over, though. I don't think it's likely they will take over but you never know in the populist age. Promising stuff that in any world can't be delivered is all the rage right now.

I don't think the dems are going to follow Mamdani into that abyss, and actual governing is going to clip his wings a lot. The head of the dem party was all over the news shows last night pitching a "big tent" dem party view. That will be the message, and focusing on the winners in the NJ and VA, rather than Mamdani. But I do think they like Mamdani sticking fingers in Trump's eyes.

This is the most salient conclusion from the election 2025. I think MAGA is a bit like Obama's Cult during his presidential tenure-more about being enamored with whatever divinity the cult ascribes to the leader than any actual political movement. Without Donald Trump on the ballot my guess is a not so small edge is lost for the right. Whatever all the advice the experts keep giving Democrats and then whining that nobody is listening-Democrats ran two moderates for Governor and both won. Time will tell if that is just the consistent dynamic of Democrats for statewide office in NJ and VA or if the left is re-calibrating to the center. My understanding is Democrats found great success in down ballot races in both states-I would think that is more of a sign for where the electorate is going with its fatigue with Trump and the current iteration of the Republican Party. I think the overall branding issues the Democrat Party currently suffers from will prevent a huge wave victory in 2026 and the Senate races are far more favorable to Republicans but flipping the house to a slight Democrat majority looks likely.

California also saved Democracy by gerrymandering its Congressional seats in favor of Democrats-so we all go that going for us.

Zohran (I called him Magdani last night, so I'm not one to talk). I'm not sure anyone here is revelling in his victory. I'm not even sure the democratic party is doing that. But I think they are in a tight spot.

I don't think the DSA wing is all that big. I don't have any progressive friends who are part of it in Utah.
