Can you imagine the blowback if a democratic president was doing this?

Exactly. When Obama and Geithner saved the economy with bailouts, the GOP at the time went into freak out mode because of the socialization that was happening. Trump is doing the same thing...err...he's actually doing something more socialist which is to actually own part of the company.

Money has already changed hands, with more to come. Also, the stock has voting rights but the government has to vote as a board majority directs, with certain exceptions. Under federal securities laws, even a 10% interest can be deemed to ba a controlling interest. The CHIPS Act authorized the grant of vast amounts of money to U.S. chipmakers and Intel's share of that is a little less than $10 Billion, of which $2 Bn has already been paid. Trump changed the deal Congress had authorized by demanding (and getting) a 10% stake of Intel, along with warrants that entitle the U.S. to pick up 5% more. One can argue that Trump changed a giveaway (which the federal government does countless times) into a nice deal for the U.S. taxpayer, and superficially, that's correct. But having the White House meddling in corporate governance is not at all a good thing from a free market perspective. Trump had called for CEO Lip-Bu Tan''s resignation because of an alleged conflict of interest, but withdrew the demand as part of the investment scheme. Name drop: I worked with Lip Bu 40 years ago when he was a VC--nice guy and wicked smart.

And please, everyone, drop the last "e" from Newsom.

Plus, what about regulatory oversight and/or government contracting? The USG now has a singular interest in the success of Intel. How can this even be allowed?

Next up on the list of Things Daddy Doesn't Like: Flag Burning. Despite acknowledging that flag burning has been protected speech under the 1st Amendment since 1984, Trump is again flipping the rest of us the Big Beautiful Bird by systematically removing our freedoms and civil rights.

President Donald Trump said while signing the order: "They burn the American flag. They call it freedom of speech. When you burn a flag, the area goes crazy. If you have hundreds of people, they go crazy. You can do other things…but when you burn the American flag, it incites riots at levels we've never seen before."

The executive order reads in part: "Notwithstanding the Supreme Court's rulings on First Amendment protections, the court has never held that American flag desecration conducted in a manner that is likely to incite imminent lawless action or that is an action amounting to 'fighting words' is constitutionally protected."

Flag-burning is one of the stupidest issues that elements of the right have brought up for the past 60 years. How many daily flag burnings are there? Will calling attention to this very rare form of protest increase or decrease flag burnings?

Many years ago I participated in a flag burning. There were several of us and we were pretty scruffy looking. But this came at the end of a week of Acorn Training and burning a flag (which is an appropriate act for retiring old flags) was part of a ceremony. But if in my heart I was thinking "Burn, baby, burn!. Death to America!", was I guilty of this new crime?

Our Demagogue-in-Chief loves flexing his authoritarian muscles, to our nation's detriment.

Trump's frequent use of "the likes of which have never been seen" is always amusing and grossly incorrect. I can't remember any riot being incited by a flag burning. i do remember a riot being incited by a guy who worked up a mob he repeatedly told to march on the Capitol and fight like hell (and I shake my head at MAGA-types who rush to remind us he said "peacefully," a single afterthought during an incitement that urged people to FIGHT more than twenty times).
