You think Atlassian is just an "underwriter" of NPR?? Seriously, please make some cogent arguments. I am getting bored.

    Wally, come to play bro.
Don't forget the very special 12 month long annual fundraising drive, and if you pledge in the next hour, someone has promised to match it! If you act now, they'll even throw in an order of Schweddy Balls!

    • PBS and NPR have great content worth preserving.

When I evaluate what I consume on the radio or TV, I'm not worried about which way ideologically it is leaning. I consider the content.

I don't watch a lot of PBS right now, but Nova is one of my favorite shows. I do enjoy some of the Masterpiece Theater. I will watch a Frontline episode that are interesting. The one about the 2008 economic collapse was spectacular and had interviews with several people who were in the room when the Bush administration was making decisions.

I don't really listen to the radio anymore. I'm either listening to audible or podcasts, but many of them are associated with NPR. Marketplace is a staple. Planet money is great. I've started listening to Radio Lab. Hidden Brain has some great hits and several misses. Science Friday has fallen off my radar since ditching the radio, but I just went and added it to my podcast library.

There have been a few times where I've turned off NPR because of the topic and their approach. They can lean left on some programs, but generally the content is great.

Talk about a PROGRAMMING ADVANTAGE! they get to talk about Schweddy Ball, that is not FAIR! There must be equal access too SNL memes for both political parties!!! Otherwise Wally and Shaka will have nothing to complain about. That is not fair in the most obvious manner. We must all be able to complain about the other side equally.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

BIASED DEMOCRAT. There is no other response.

Right Shaka? Please, defend your position bro.

          • I don't mind NPR and PBS, but I am sympathetic to arguments for cutting them. Do we really need public (taxpayer funded) TV and radio stations? Always seemed kind of weird to me.

I listen to many of those myself. I question whether they should be subsidized with tax dollars, though.

More to the point, though, these aren't the programs that get affected if taxes are cut. They have broad national audiences, sponsors, and other supporters. If tax dollars stop going to public broadcasting, these programs will probably be fine. The ones that get cut are the little guys in rural Alaska that broadcast to truckers that the road is iced over and closed.

Much better to have the White House's official site link to Twitter, Heritage foundation, and Fox News.

                      • I see a conservative argument for wanting to cut funding although this move seems more about meanness than fiscal responsibility.

The Public legally owns the airwaves, so there is a public interest in having non privatized stations. It's why those channels have educational content that wouldn't otherwise have life. They have some high quality programming too.

Speaking of broadcasting, you can bet MAGAts are going to start politicizing the hell out of how broadcast licenses are administered.

                        • Wally, I don't hope Trump is a monster. But I don't ignore the ample evidence that paints a different picture than yours. Epstein said he was Trump's best friend.
Trump was legally found to have sexually assaulted women. Underaged beauty pageant contestants talked about how he would stroll back stage and peep at them when they were in a state of undress. He said if Ivanka wasn't his daughter he'd date her and they both enjoy sex, she has great tits etc.
Plus the whole "When you are famous women let you grab 'em by the ..."
He sure seemed to be catting around with Laura Loomer.
I think you've got some wilful ignorance going on. I don't want Trump to be horrible but he keeps surprising me with the capacity for impulsivity, dipshittery and selfishness.
Monster isn't a word I'd use. Disaster or embarrassment would be my choices.
Maybe Trump isn't the decent, misunderstood man you try so hard to assume he is. You're starting to sound like someone who unironically hangs Jon McNaughton paintings up in their house.

                          • If you think NPR is neutral or only has a slightly leftward lean, you are delusional. PBS on the other hand does have some quality content (a fair amount of which isn't PBS created). But it really is silly to be publicly funded. If tax payer money really only makes up a small portion of its funding, then getting rid of it isn't a big deal and people are fighting for little more than symbolism.

I am pretty sure the vast majority of least somewhat sane sane citizens of our country believe this but many say this is why they voted for him. They know they want change but they dont know what or how to change things. So they went with the change guy.

"We can't afford to be subsidizing such things". Please back that up. Why can't we afford to provide free public news to the country? We need to reduce funding to public news to what, fund ..... what? What is the problem here? Trump wants MORE defense funding. Please explain to me how we are more safe by defunding a public new source (that is admittedly not in favor or Trump's policies) and further funding defense. What is the danger here????

Dude, you aren't even making an argument. Back out if you aren't capable of debating the topic. GFTO.
I gave an opinion. Unfortunately, opinions contrary to your own, are not allowed in this thread. Please refer to Wally's post above. Evidence? I posted a freaking video with the CEO of NPR getting grilled over the issue of bias. There was a whole congressional hearing on it.

I sometimes listen to NPR driving home from the gym. Afternoon drive time on NPR was all about the fear that Catholic attitudes towards LGBTQ will regress when conclave picks a new pope undoing all the good Pope Francis did. He blamed the African and hispanic priests for this egregious and homophic return to orthodoxy. The guest called Catholics who take would do this, "mean". My experience with NPR is that this is typical. Yes there are hard news reports but most of the rest is left leaning. Again, all EIGHTY SEVEN members of the NPR editorial board lean left. If you ahd bothered to watch the hearing you'd see the CEO of NPR admit this and call it a problem.
