President Trump: Making America Great Again...

Exactly. In a period with record inflation and a president with a terrible approval rating, the republicans could not win the senate and only barely got a majority in the house. One of the worst mid-term elections in history. "Insulated themselves from true political pain". Ha!"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

They GOP has lost elections in ‘18, ‘20, and ‘22 yet are still pressing forward with the Trump side of the party. They’re able to do this because they hold a large chunk of seats regardless the crazies they nominate.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

They ran, Walker, Oz, Vance, Masters, Ron Johnson, Laxalt, and Rubio and almost took the majority.

Your recollection of history isn’t entirely correct. They didn’t go after him. They ignored him until it was too late and then went after him. They don’t appear to making the same mistake this time, especially after the beating the GOP took in the midterms.Originally posted by fusnik View Post
The Murdochs went after him in 2015.
The GOP establishment went after him in 2015-2016.
They tried to jump ship after the pussy tape and a mere 4 years later Mike Lee was comparing him to Moroni.
GTFO.
The party is Trump and Trumpism. White grievance and own the libs politics.
Will they turn about face and support trump if he’s the nominee? Of course they will. But it seems like a more concerted effort to not even let it get very far this time. Even the MAGAites in my ward are already saying it’s time to move on."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

He's off the meds. I don't know what people don't get. Also... Alex Jones is on the air? And with Kanye? I guess he better get them clicks-- he's about 1,000,000,000 in the hole according to my figures...Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post"I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! Sure, Trump winning a general election is unlikely, but he has the inside track on the repub nomination and the process sets up very well for him. Those maga-ites that would prefer someone else will all come around. Certainly those donors will jump on board if Trump gets the nomination, despite their opposition now. repub leaders that bad mouth Trump (but never directly) are hoping that somehow the legal issues will take Trump out (they won't, not enough time) and that they can then jump in and vaccum up that 35-40% of Always Trump voters for themselves. Nobody will take him on directly. They are afraid.
Like I said, things set up well for him to bully his way to the nomination. Look, he's announced. He has that head start.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Christie was the first of the pod people--individuals who were pretty normal and recognized Trump for the lousy human and joke of a candidate that he was/is. Then they woke up one morning and their soul had been snatched. Until Christie endorsed Trump, I didn't think there was a chance in hell Trump would get the nomination, much less win the election. But then I was shocked by the endorsement and thought, "uh oh."Originally posted by Maximus View Post

Yes, He Will Burn It All Down
I've seen nothing so far all that compelling that indicates repubs are ready to throw Trump overboard. That may come. I would welcome it. But all indications are that they will proceed as described above, and Trump will be the nominee. I hope I am wrong. But they are more concerned about grabbing wins via the great Trump unwashed. And as noted below, Trump holds that leverage over them (and they confirm that via their inaction or tepid responses). Good hell, he supped with an antisemite and white nationalist and he is still calling the shots in the House repub leadership race.Trump has, at worst, about an even-money chance to win the Republican nomination. Before the midterms, Vanity Fair reported DeSantis was willing to wait for 2028 so he wouldn’t have to take on Trump. That was before he ran up the score in his re-election contest. But beating Charlie Crist in an increasingly red state while successfully ignoring Trump isn’t the same thing as beating Trump for the nomination. Just as releasing a campaign video claiming “God made a fighter” isn’t the same as actually fighting Trump, either.
And look at the rest of the Republican field: What’s their argument? None of them are running against Trump’s lawlessness or tyrannical instincts and they aren’t likely to distinguish themselves from each other on policy. What they think they can do is position themselves as polished Trumpists—savvier, more sophisticated culture warriors willing to dabble in illiberalism or authoritarian socialism, like using the state to attack the private sector. If the candidates nominated in 2020 and 2022 were more Trumpy, not less, the 2024 Republican contenders will likely run as Trump-lite, not as alternatives. If they do, then Trump has the best shot to win.
When Republican elites say they want to move on from Trump because he hurts their party’s electoral chances, they’re telegraphing their own vulnerability. They’re admitting that they care more about winning Republican seats than anything else. Donald Trump does not care if the GOP ever wins again. And this gives him leverage over them.
If Republicans don’t understand this already, they soon will.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

The conservatives here have to ask themselves why their movement has failed so dramatically at finishing off Trump.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostYes, He Will Burn It All Down

It’s why I keep saying y’all need to stop voting for anybody with an R next to their name save Romney. At this point if you aren’t actively trying to destroy Trump, you have demonstrated your inability to synthesize information and make rational decisions. Those folks shouldn’t receive your support.
And save me the DeSantis/Ducey/Hogan/Asa, BS, those dudes disqualified themselves by sitting by and campaigning with election deniers and couldn’t bring themselves to vote for rational democrats against full blown Trump backed crazies.
