Try to keep up. The current story is that the powder was harmless. The bomb is still being tested. Remember, some of them were packed with glass. Why would a fake bomb be packed with glass?Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Question for you: Why would a real bomb use a $5 dollar clock without even an alarm and a 3v, >50mA battery (ie., a watch battery) for a detonator?"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

It's been barely a day. The usual Twitter asshats (on both sides) have jumped the gun on outlandish claims. By the same token, shouldn’t we let things settle down a bit before deciding who made or sent them?Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostLink? From a reputable news source?

https://abcnews.go.com/US/suspicious...ry?id=58713254The devices found in New York, Washington and Florida were all similarly constructed, using digital clocks as a switch, a powder charge and a battery power source,
From the other pictures and the x-ray you can see that this is the digital clock that was used: https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Clock.../dp/B014KS29W4
The battery, as seen in the x-ray, is a flat one like a CR1616 or something similar. It is obvious to most engineers that is not enough to power a blasting cap. The specs I read it would require at least 0.5 Amps (these flat batteries are around 50mA at most). And that is if it is at least 12v (not 3v). The dumbass that built these bombs should have hired me as a consultant.

Let's just make sure we are arguing the same thing. It's one thing to say that these were poorly made bombs that would be difficult to detonate. I assume that's part of what you're insinuating, and from what has been reported it sounds like that's the case. But it's another thing to allege they were fake bombs. That's something impossible to know until we have more information.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostIs ABC news reputable enough for you?

I'm pretty sure Uncle Ted just said he wanted to be involved in making the bombs.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

If there no way the bomb could be detonated the way it was designed and built, wouldn't that make it a fake bomb? Help me out here.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostAbsolutely. Did I offer an opinion as to who made them or sent them?

(Disclaimer: I haven't read anything about how the bombs were designed and built)Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIf there no way the bomb could be detonated the way it was designed and built, wouldn't that make it a fake bomb? Help me out here.
Isn't it possible that the builder intended to build a functioning bomb, but (1) is stupid and screwed it up, or (2) is stupid and couldn't figure it out?
The puzzling thing to me is why you would include working materials (whatever the explosive ingredient is) in the bomb if you only intended it to be a fake. That's like loading a gun but removing the firing pin.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

It is a matter of Bad Bomb vs. Fake Bomb. Poorly designed/built so it doesn't explode or intentionally designed/built not to explode?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIf there no way the bomb could be detonated the way it was designed and built, wouldn't that make it a fake bomb? What Creek said. A badly built bomb can still be dangerous, and I assume was meant to be detonated, no matter how poorly made. A fake one is meant as a hoax with no intention of hurting people.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIf there no way the bomb could be detonated the way it was designed and built, wouldn't that make it a fake bomb? I still think this qualifies as terrorist activity as well, not that anyone was disputing that.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostWhat Creek said.
