Remind me where I wrote there should be a policy about it. Sarcasm may not translate here well. Even when I agree, some of you are disagreeable.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

i know you didn't say that. Sorry, I misread your post. I thought you were saying we shouldn't worry about it since it doesn't affect hardly anyone anyway. That's a different argument to me that some are making. But I realize you're not the type of guy who likes having lots of government policies just for the sake of having them.

        • Tom Price's mea [sort of] culpa announcement would lead one to think he's a lawyer, not an orthopedic surgeon. Note the careful phrasing, "Today, I will write a personal check to the US Treasury for the expenses of my travel on private charter planes. ... The taxpayers won't pay a dime for my seat on those planes."

Of course, there were lots of seats on the private planes he chartered, but by paying [only] for his seat, he has to kick in only $50K or so, rather than the $1 Million plus price tag of his flights.

Are breaking a client confidence here? It sounds like something you might have written.

I won't defend Trump on his stupid comments, but this really is a no-win situation for him. There's only so much he can do given the logistics of the situation and it will never be enough. I've been through hurricanes and it's hard enough dealing with issues even when there is power and utilities...but having to deal with it at such a long distance and with no power, water, etc. is almost impossible and given the wide spread destruction even housing is looking to be an issue. These people can't just drive to Dallas or Baton Rouge to seek relief and there's over 3 million people over there.

Puerto Rico also wasn't prepared for something like this. Not to put all the blame on them, but that place has been so badly ran for so long, a tragedy was bound to strike. Their gov't is in no place to do anything given their debt load and previous wild spending and now they have to beg for help. We should help them as much as possible, but they share much more of the blame than the US.

Trump is dumb though and needs to shut his piehole and just keep trying to help.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I'll let Drumpf to try to defend himself. My gripe is the news is full of one-sided crap. For example, look at this tweet from the mayor herself...

Yet, so called news outlets seems to want to focus on that mayor said millions of people are dying in Puerto Rico (because of government bureaucracy and inefficiency). Yeah, I agree... there is too much bureaucracy and inefficiency in the federal government. For example, like the stoopid jones act. (WTF? That should be eliminated permanently! Who the hell cares who builds the ships? Even McCain this sh*t law needs to go.) Maybe it is time to give the power and money back to the states (and make Puerto Rico a state or let them be their own country).

                              • I landed in Puerto Rico as a missionary a few months after Hurricane Hugo hit. At the time, it was the most damaging hurricane to hit PR. I had missed most of the rebuilding efforts, but there were still enough people demolishing wooden houses that we didn't have to look too hard to get those 4 hours of volunteer time each week.

Most of the communities in PR are probably comparable to relatively poor mainland US cities. Most houses are concrete, with no glass windows or A/C. There were even some areas that didn't have hot water heaters; at least half of our apartments didn't have them. Most of the people in these areas will still have to struggle for food and water, but they will likely have some roof over their heads. But some of the smaller inland towns are filled mostly with wood houses. Some of them are in the mountains with only small roads accessing them. These areas are likely demolished now, and the extent of the crisis will only be known once they are accessed. It's going to get worse.

It is beyond embarrassing that we have an asshole of a president who cannot let any perceived insult, even in the face of a natural disaster, go unchallenged. Even if the San Juan mayor unfairly attacked the US response (which is sounding less likely now), she was reacting in the face of a catastrophe that absolutely no one was prepared for. Never mind the complete lack of self-awareness to not realize the terrible optics of attacking an American citizen with a derogatory stereotype in the face of disaster affecting millions of Americans, while he is busy fighting the NFL and staying at his private golf resort. Where's the human decency and empathy to realize what she is going through, and ignore your bruised ego and put the damn phone away?

                                It's been nine months...
