I saw that this morning. I’m leaving for Honduras in a week on a medical trip. I hope today’s announcement doesn’t negatively impact it.

His decision sounds just mean and hateful. That’s really cool of you to volunteer your expertise and time. Hope it goes smoothly for you.

That is great, hostile. I hope you have a safe and productive trip.

I’m excited. Should be a good experience and a chance to help people who have limited access to surgery. As I have talked with others who have done this trip they have all said they felt safe. If I don’t post for a while can someone contact the state department?

I have one tip: Just make sure your group doesn’t follow the lead of the Catholic HS from Kentucky and go decked out in cheap MAGA hats.

            • Very kind and generous of you to donate so much of your time to this, hostile. I'm already looking forward to a report, if you're willing to share.

And sorry to get political after that, but this is a reason why I remain optimistic about our country's future despite having perhaps the most loathsome president ever. The fact is there are thousands, millions even, of people doing good things who are committed to making life better for others, and not just themselves. There's only so much damage Trump can do (admittedly, it's a lot) and thankfully, we as a people are better than he is.

It would be cool to have a thread about all the generous and kind things csers are doing. The world is truly an awful place with awful and cruel people, but it also simultaneously an amazing place full of resilient, kind and generous individuals. I could certainly use reminders of the latter.

Highest Percentage Of Households Reporting Income Gains Since 1966

People's Pundit Daily reports that March is shaping up to be a stellar economic month and that most households since 1966 are reporting income gains.

"Middle and lower income households more frequently reported income gains than last month, although income gains were still widespread among upper income households,” Richard Curtain, chief economist for the Survey of Consumers told PPD staff. “Indeed, the last time a larger proportion of households reported income gains was in 1966.”

Likewise, "consumer confidence rebounded in March to 98.4 from last month’s 93.8, slightly above the average of 97.2 recorded in the past 26 months."

These numbers could continue to rise in the wake of the Mueller report recommending no indictments for President Donald Trump and his campaign associates.

                      • In a sane world Republicans would be concerned about this.

President Trump may have let his questionable security practices slip beyond the family.

On Monday, House Democrats said a whistleblower told them at least 25 people headed for the Trump White House had been denied security clearances, but somehow ended up with clearances anyway. The House Oversight and Reform Committee is now investigating those alleged security sidesteppers, and National Security Adviser John Bolton is on the list, The New York Times reports.

Trump has been criticized for what some call seemingly lax security standards since early in his presidency. His son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner has come under the most scrutiny, with a January NBC News report saying Kushner was denied clearance after an FBI background check, but that Trump's personnel security head granted Kushner top secret access anyway. Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter and senior adviser who's married to Kushner, faced similar skepticism.

After hearing whistleblower Tricia Newbold's account last month, House Oversight Committee Chair Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) requested summaries of just how Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and Bolton got their clearances. Newbold said she or someone else in the White House's Personnel Security Office denied clearances for at least two people who are now Trump "senior officials," per the Times. Kushner appears to be at least one of the officials, but the other, who was denied for "possible foreign influence," is unclear.

Bolton has held major roles in several Republican administrations, presumably with a solid clearance under his belt, but Democrats seem to think he's in shakier territory this time around

                        • Trump's worst instincts are coming into play again. It will be interesting to see to what extent his stupidity takes over and makes him feel like he has to close the border just because he thinks he can when everyone around him is trying to tell him not to. Disrupting free trade is never a good idea.

"President Donald Trump could initiate chaos and grave economic disruption by finally making good on his threat to slam shut the southern border, yet he's clearly tempted to do it anyway.

Such a dramatic gesture would fulfill many of Trump's most fundamental short-term political goals and indulge a domineering personality and a desire to please his most vehement supporters that drives so much of his behavior as President.

"Our detention areas are maxed out & we will take no more illegals. Next step is to close the Border!" Trump tweeted on Monday, after telling reporters over the weekend, "I'm not playing games."

Trump's anti-immigration rhetoric and willingness to flout international norms suggest he cares little about the humanitarian and diplomatic implications of such a radical move, which he has threatened to take as early as this week.

Yet the swift and severe economic impact of closing the border -- on industries like auto manufacturing, retail and fresh produce, and on US exports to a top trading partner, Mexico -- could finally stay the President's hand and suggests he could be bluffing again.

A border closure could immediately hike prices of fruits and vegetables all over the United States at a time of the growing season when Mexico is an especially important source of America's food. Within a few days, shortages could ripple around the country, including in Trump's political heartlands of the Midwest and the South.

"We haven't seen a time in the US when supermarket shelves are bare from fresh produce in a long time," said Lance Jungmeyer, president of the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas. "We have grown very accustomed to having all the food we want when we want to eat it and at a price that is reasonable."

So while Trump would be handing a win on immigration to his supporters on one hand, he could be taking away something even more vital on the other -- a political equation that may weigh against a border closure.

"The impact in the US in general, including with the President's base, would be quite substantial and happen quite quickly," said Geoff Thale, vice president of programs at the Washington Office on Latin America, a human rights and advocacy organization.

                          • Um, a little disconcerting:

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

The best part of it is when he fully realizes there is no way he can pronounce the word 'origins' and that he's totally saying oranges, so he gives two separate synonyms. 'The BEGINNINGS.... where it started...'
