Six Republicans broke ranks to vote for the Democratic plan, which would have reopened shuttered government agencies through Feb. 8, without any wall money. Among them was Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), who explained in the lunch why he planned to vote for both bills.

Surprise! It's not a crime to be in the country without papers.

It constitutes a misdemeanor to cross the border without inspection, but those were not prosecuted until Trump and Sessions figured out that by prosecuting those you could technically put parents in the slammer, de facto separating them from their kids and giving the government big time leverage in convincing people to not file for asylum and just go back to their country.

Thousands of orphaned children later (since the government doesn't know how to fix anything it ruins), that move just deserves one of these.
