Trump White House grows eager to escape losing shutdown fight

Now that the Senate has shot down President Donald Trump’s compromise offer to end the month-long government shutdown, White House officials aren’t sure of their next move.

But they do know one thing: they’re losing, and they want to cut a deal.

    . . . . . .

Trump’s next move remained a mystery to many West Wing aides even as the White House considered Graham’s proposal Thursday. But with Trump’s approval rating dropping to its lowest point in a year and advisers warning of a rising economic toll from the enduring stalemate, the president and his team are more eager than ever to strike a deal, according to a half dozen sources familiar with the situation.
Pelosi punched him the mouth over the SotU address and now she has him running scared. And McConnell has seen enough, hence those votes to show the White House that Dems were not cracking, despite the fantasies right-wing nut jobs were peddling.
    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Exclusive: White House preparing draft national emergency order, has identified $7 billion for wall

The White House is preparing a draft proclamation for President Donald Trump to declare a national emergency along the southern border and has identified more than $7 billion in potential funds for his signature border wall should he go that route, according to internal documents reviewed by CNN.

Trump has not ruled out using his authority to declare a national emergency and direct the Defense Department to construct a border wall as Congress and the White House fight over a deal to end the government shutdown. But while Trump's advisers remain divided on the issue, the White House has been moving forward with alternative plans that would bypass Congress.

So he would just use the DoD infrastructure money... The Dems need to take this to the SCOTUS!

‘This is your fault’: GOP senators clash over shutdown inside private luncheon

Six Republicans broke ranks to vote for the Democratic plan, which would have reopened shuttered government agencies through Feb. 8, without any wall money. Among them was Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), who explained in the lunch why he planned to vote for both bills.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who voted for Trump’s bill but opposed the Democratic plan, started to interrupt him and Romney snapped back, according to one of the people who attended the lunch and another person familiar with it. The exchange was lively but not particularly angry, they said.

It constitutes a misdemeanor to cross the border without inspection, but those were not prosecuted until Trump and Sessions figured out that by prosecuting those you could technically put parents in the slammer, de facto separating them from their kids and giving the government big time leverage in convincing people to not file for asylum and just go back to their country.

Thousands of orphaned children later (since the government doesn't know how to fix anything it ruins), that move just deserves one of these.
