If the dems had been smart, they could have bought a lot of concessions for that $5 Bill. The longer this goes, I think the less they will get.

Trump had to have his win and the Dems had to make sure he did not get this win. Both sides are stupid and neither gives a crap about doing anything useful.
One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

Bizarre, you keep advocating for spending $5 billion on a dumb idea.

I hope to someday live in a society where people don't spend money on ideas that they think are dumb.

      • So how exactly is $5 billion to build a wall going to alleviate the human suffering caused by the humanitarian crisis at the border that the Dump Team has suddenly recognized?

They can triage the sufferers on it?

It's only 5 billion dollars. That's nothing when you consider the national debt (about 780 billion). What's 5 more?

For that reason, I agree with Moliere and fully support this dumb idea and think that anyone that opposes it is dumb.

From first hand anecdotes, a lot of them seek out CBP agents. Some just cross where they can. Very, very few get across undetected, but it happens. Applying for asylum is usually part of the game plan.

It acts as a physical deterrent so the word gets back to the countries these folks are coming from that the chances of them walking through all of Mexico exposed to the elements and "coyotes" to simply walk across the border is less than it use to be. And they will most likely be victimized along the way...

Of course, this humanitarian crisis is all #fakenews and made up by Drumpf so none of this sh*t happens to people... No one is harmed making these journeys for the "American Dream".

5 billion is more than enough to end the "crisis" at the border with asylum seekers. It's also enough to bolster resources at points of entry, which is where most drugs enter the country. A stupid wall is a dumb, blunt idea that was fashioned for morons to latch onto. And boy have they ever.

Increased border control would have the effect you are touting here, and a wall doesn't accomplish that. Also, let's not pretend Trump or his rabid followers suddenly give a shit about the people they are tear gassing and putting into concentration camps and separating from their infants. That's the most dishonest argument yet. OH BUT THE WALL WILL HELP THOSE POOR PEOPLE.

                      • Poor Trump can’t catch a break. 5 billion apparently isn’t enough to build a wall that can’t be cut through:

Not that I've seen anywhere. If you have seen otherwise let us know. I don't think Trump really has the ability to offer anything. The dems would likely take a good deal on DACA, but that's not realistic to expect Trump to allow because the extreme right talking heads will rile up and anger a good portion of his base if that happens.

There is reportedly a group of GOP senators trying to put together something that could appeal to the democrats in the Senate. It's not believed to have a great chance at working because the president has shown a history of agreeing to something and backing out as soon as the immigration hardliners find his ear. I think Trump would take the money and move on if it was given to him without asking for anything in return. Short of that, I think he also likes the drama and the fight itself, so why not sit where he's at.

The truth is, Mitch McConnell could end this basically on his own right now if he really wanted to. Just allow a CR to be voted on that is veto proof. In fact, they already had that a few weeks ago but McConnell pulled it from the table when Trump suddenly changed his mind about signing it.

McConnell doesn't want to do it probably because he doesn't want to be primaried in 2020.

When history is written on this era I think McConnell and Paul Ryan are going to get blasted.

                          • Not sure if this is old news, but I hadn't seen it before--a clip from a late '50s TV show (Trackdown) in which a con man convinces an unwitting town they need to build a wall. The con man's name is Trump. Not sure if the sheriff's name is Mueller, and it would be better if the con man had a huge combover, but still pretty good, including Trump's threat to sue one of naysayers.

If the border wall adds absolutely no increase in security then why have any of it?

This reminds me of a dumb comment I read the other day:

(Not to mention, the dummy is wrong about El Sh*thole... It is not even the safest city in Texas by far.)

Dumbass comments like this just make me shake my head.

Where the hell were you when the same sh*t was happening under Clinton, Bush, Obama, etc? Pull your head out man and stop being a bigot against people of orange skin color.

Until all the incentives for illegal immigrants to come here are removed they will just keep coming. If anyone gave a rats ass about immigrants and claims to be any sort of an humanitarian they would give these people the incentive to not make this dangerous journey to just to be caught and sent back home. Give them the incentive to become an legal immigrant instead.

you do that by providing a reasonable way for those people to enter and work here legally, which is an option that doesn't currently exist for most of them.
