That's funny, I saw one poll showing how he has the worst approval rating of any president since...... DJT 45.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Final average for first-term Trump was 41% (worst in history). Just edging out Biden who finished with a 42% average (second worst in history). I have zero doubt that Trump will set that number even lower during his second term.Originally posted by falafel View Post

I watched a documentary on CECOT a while back. Some of the opinions posted above are in erroneous. It's a very tough place that houses the worst of the worst. This is El Salvador's attempt to curtail the gang issues that were ruining their country. I'd wager there are some innocents that have been incarcerated but I'd guess a vast majority of the inmates belong there. CECOT is widely by the general population.
I doubt Trump is sending common criminals to CECOT. I'm no expert but I have a cop buddy on the taskforce that chases these guys around the areas of Salt Lake County that Unified covers. They are well-aware of who the gang members are even though they can't always do anything about it. Trump is serious about getting rid of the illegals who are gang members. If the local PD's are wiling to work with ICE then most of the work is done and all that's left is to detain. Many of them are self-deporting because they fear capture.
This is one of the docs I watched. Might as well educate yourselves. It seems fair and balanced.

Okay, this is El Salvador's business. Seems harsh and unconstitutional according U.S. law, but this isn't the U.S., so El Salvador can do what El Salvador will do.Originally posted by Shaka View PostI watched a documentary on CECOT a while back. We in the U.S. have our own laws and our own prison system. If people commit crimes here, they should be prosecuted according to our laws and under our constitutional process. That protects the rights of all of us. If they are undocumented and convicted, then deport them to their home countries once they have served their sentences in the U.S. system. And the courts have ruled that way.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

And which the US government knows have committed no crimes in the US. The DoJ submitted a declaration last night that said "It is true that many of the TdA members removed under the AEA do not have criminal records in the United States."Originally posted by Maximus View Post

El Salvador is a dictatorship. Bukele is popular but he is a dictator. He did help clean up El Salvador's horrible crime problem but all dictatorships come at costs. MBN is right, how El Salvador deals with their incarcerated is their business.
However 10s of thousands have been disappeared within El Salvador's criminal justice system. That's nothing to brag about.
Shaka, I'm guessing one of the reasons you like this and have heard of him is that he is popular in MAGA-world.
He mocked the judge who ordered that those flights were illegal and ordered the flights blocked.
Shortly after the Trump administration deported hundreds of Venezuelans to El Salvador this weekend, the Salvadoran president, Nayib Bukele, posted a three-minute video on social media. It featured shackled men being marched off a plane over a dramatic electronic soundtrack and into prison, where they were shaved bald.
Mr. Bukele also taunted the U.S. judge who unsuccessfully ordered the flights turned around, posting on X, “Oopsie … Too late,” with a laughing emoji. Secretary of State Marco Rubio shared the video, as did Elon Musk. Mr. Trump thanked Mr. Bukele online, saying, “We will not forget!”
El Salvador’s role in the Trump administration’s deportation strategy signals a new level of power and global visibility for Mr. Bukele, who became president at 37 in 2019 and was re-elected by a landslide last year.

It's fascinating and disappointing that MAGA is fine completely disregarding big parts of the constitution. Free Speech, Due Process, Equal Protection, three co-equal branches of the government. I wonder if Mike Lee's pocket constitution spontaneously combusted at some point between his multiple posts on X.

Can I just interject here that if you are ever in Provo, check the little hole-in-the-wall restaurant on center street called El Salvador. Owners are great people and the fresh hand-made pupusas are amazing.
Oh ... and the owner told me that crime in El Salvador was way out of control and the new president has cracked down with super harsh prison sentences, etc and crime is under control but people aren't sure it was worth the cost."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right?
