These things are meant to distract and while significant if it truly is a dog whistle, the opposition has to truly pick their battles here if they want to have any credible pushback. If they throw a fit for everything, the public, in general, is going to tire on the whole thing. To a great extent, they already have. Any opposition to trump needs to be laser focused.

Republicans went off on bullshit and unserious culture wars for a decade, and now they are in power and doing everything they can to enforce the culture wars, it's the opposition's fault for not being focused enough.

Everything is a liberal/moderate's fault. Got it.

Laser focus is a mistake. For every one of Lebowski's type who get annoyed at all the bullshit being flung against the wall, there are 20 more who happily let it stick. A laser focus convinces the one, and the other 20 go on to vote based on bullshit that wasn't immediately addressed.

Whatever the opposition/Democrats are doing now obviously isn't working.

I'm not blaming them for how bad Trump is. I wish there was a credible group who could competently offer an acceptable alternative that the general public would accept.

There is no way Trump ever should have been re-elected.

The problem is all the distractions, and the opposition is playing right into those distractions. Those items may matter, but they don't matter to the general public unfortunately.

The messages need to be about the items that are going to negatively impact the constituents as directly as possible. And that connection needs to be highlighted.

Please explain to me how your life is going to be directly impacted by the Elon Musk's actions at that rally? The message is likely lots of speculation that is unconvincing to the general electorate.

But there are so many examples where Trumps policies are going to directly and generally hurt American citizens, our allies, and people around the world, etc.

There absolutely needs to be focus. The distractions need to be minimized so the effective message gets through.

The inability to understand the sensitive nature of the gesture and to minimize it as trolling or awkward behaviour is alarming.

Do we continue to let public discourse descend to those depths, or do we acknowledge it for what it is and demand better? It is not obsessive, or unreasonable to expect someone as overtly political as Musk to be better, in language, gesture and action.
Lack of sensitivity. Ha. There is that sanctimony again.

                        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Like so many of Trump's declarations, this is total nonsense. As much as we'd welcome it, there is no river, canal, pipe, or conduit bringing water from the PNW to California. Among other problems, there are those pesky Klamath Mountains standing in the way. Trump loves to make up crap that makes it sound like he's doing great stuff and the knucklehead members of MAGA high five each other over such nonsense.

                            Preach brother!

So, where should the focus be? How does the opposition highlight the negative impacts? And is there an audience willing to listen?

This tweet is instructive. No workers in a development, no construction getting done. The tweeter assumes it's because the workers are in hiding, avoiding ICE. The negative impact is obvious: people's homes are not getting built, delayed inventory in the market, pressure on rising prices as a result. But look at the comments. People are happy. "Way to go Trump!" "Let the fired DEI workers do this work!" MAGA appears to want chaos for some reason.

The real consequences won't be realized by these people for some time. By that time they'll be on to some other fantasy.

I'll still be in the PNW, though separated by salt water. Still, I don't want those Californians having any of mine!
