It should, but I think there's a strong argument that it doesn't. At least in modern history. In my lifetime Carter had the strongest character, but was an awful president.
It does matter. Trump is also a former president, and his character flaws resulted in an ineffective presidency culminating in the January 6 storming of the US capital. But oh well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I agree that it matters, but I think we should all acknowledge that every vote requires a compromise on this issue. I don't agree that it was an ineffective presidency. It was certainly chaotic and likely could have been more effective, but it wasn't without accomplishment as he would define it. Without endorsement, a few things stand out:

      1- Judicial appointments
2- His administration was the first to require audits of the Pentagon, which is why they've only failed 7 in a row
3- The 2018 National Defense Strategy signaled a huge shift from the GWOT to great power competition, specifically naming Russia and China. Subsequent versions have been iterative.
      4- First Step Act
      5- No new wars

You are one of the better people around and I think you're looking for Trump's humanity speaks of your better nature, but I think it's ok to see the person he has consistently shown us he is. He's comically unaware of certain things. But he has lived with being immune from the benefits and impacts of criticism. There was a golfer or someone who shared an anecdote about Trump cheating at gold because he said he basically expects everyone to. He thinks cheating is part of the game.

His reputation and personality issues weren't controversial before he became a political figure. I believe he has bragged in the past about revenge being important to him. I get people have fatigue about liberals or never Trumpers bringing up his faults repeatedly, and I know I can be one of those people, he gets flack for things he does and doesn't do.

Theo Von is genuinely a really good dude. I've heard some cool things about him from people in recovery.

What's funny is I read Becoming Michelle Obama right before Don Jr's book. I guess some of us are willing to give both sides a shot.

Triggered is the one that discusses his childhood. Topics include spending summers in Czechoslovakia, how much money he received from dad growing up, and his college years including time in Colorado, and working at construction sites.

I think back to when Michelle Obama tried to roll out her Let's Move, healthy eating initiative and effort to address food deserts in underserved communities. The GOP freaked out and tried to label her as some kind of totalitarian food nanny. I'm sure that was my thought at the time as well. In retrospect she was on to something important. Of course the food industry got involved, making ketchup a vegetable and turning school cafeterias into reheating stations. Now the GOP is all MAHA and taking big portions of her playbook.

                    That's a a new one.

I like the idea that you would react against her tirade in favor or healthy foods. I prefer the "eat cake" diet myself, even if I don't eat cake.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

That's the part of "MAHA," that makes sense but the minuses outweigh any pluses.
RFK JR promotes disprovable conspiracy theories not the guy we want anywhere near our food safety or drug qc agencies.

                        • It seems like VP Trump is getting angry at all the talk about the legislative work President Musky is doing. Do we need a President Musky thread?

Trump: [Ol' Musky] is not going to be president. That I can tell you. I’m safe. You know why? He can’t be. He wasn’t born in this country
